Freda May (Martin) Tevebaugh passed away at Morton County Hospital November 21st, 2012 surrounded by her family.
Freda was born January 25th, 1931 at the family home outside Fairview, OK to Eugene and Roma Martin. She was big sister to brother JD and sister Sue. Her family moved several times during her youth, finally settling in Boise City, OK where she met Clayton Ward Tevebaugh. CW and Freda married on January 22nd, 1951. The couple was blessed with three beautiful children, Donnita Kay, Dennis Jay and Judy Ann. The young family lived 14 miles east of Boise City until they bought the Roy and Lillie Tevebaugh place south of Walsh in 1957. While the kids were busy with their schooling, Freda managed things around the home from helping CW with the cattle, to growing a beautiful garden and canning the vegetables, to creating a full feast at every meal. Most of these meals were enjoyed by not only her children, but by many beloved nieces, nephews and many other children that knew CW and Freda’s as their second home.
Freda was a hard worker and it showed in everything she did. One year she and Mary Lou Nicodemus manned the elevator at Midway for harvest. Freda unloaded hundreds of truckloads of milo. Another instance, even when Freda was very pregnant with Dennis, she milked their cows twice a day, having to sit sideways because she could not reach around her big belly.
Freda’s grandchildren knew that their Granny had a love of watching them play sports, but it was a surprise to many of them to know that Freda was a bit of an athlete herself. Freda was a member of her high school tennis team and played on a town team basketball team, and of course was a very avid bowler. Freda loved to bowl and was on a league until she was in her mid-60’s when she decided to get a job at the Walsh Healthcare Center. Freda’s other hobbies included sewing, crocheting, ceramics and any other craft that was popular at that time. Freda also enjoyed going to and hosting many ropings with CW. She always loved having friends and family around, the more the merrier. She was always up for a game of “Hand and Foot” and usually won, however, she also usually had a few cards that she was “accidently” sitting on.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents Roma and Eugene Martin, mother and father-in-law Ward and Thelma Tevebaugh, sister Sue Hunt, sisters-in-law Margaret Martin, Reba Sellers, Eileen Tevebaugh, Barbara Tevebaugh, daughter Donnita Barnes, granddaughter MaDonna Barnes and grandson-in-law Bobby Vargo.
