Alberta Lucille Dunivan
1936-2010
On November 29, 1936 Albert and Alice Luschen were blessed with their second daughter, Alberta Lucille. The family lived in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Bert lost her dad in 1939. She was blessed with a wonderful new dad, Bill Lookabaugh.
In 1946 Bill, Alice, Louellen and Bert moved to Pritchett Colorado. Bert's parents had a café in Pritchett. When Bert was not in school she would work at the café alongside her parents. A few years later Bert and her parents moved to Springfield. The family had restaurants for several years. In Bert's senior year of high school she met Bob Dunivan. They married and had 3 children, Bobbie Lou, Vickie Ann, and Steven Wayne. Bob joined the Army after the children were born and the family moved around quite a bit.
In 1961 Bert married Eugene Lease and they had 2 children, Eugene Millard and Tammy Daisy.
Bert continued to work in the restaurant business until the hospital was built. Bert was in the first group of Certified Nurses Aides that worked at the hospital. She enjoyed caring for her patients very much.
After a few years Bert and her children moved to Kansas. Bert went to work as a Certified Nurses Aide at the Johnson Hospital.
Bert loved to try new things, so she went to work for Popejoy Road Construction where she learned to operate the steele roller that packed the asphalt when they built roads and highways. When they were working in Garden City a reporter took her picture while she was on the roller. The picture was published in the local news paper. She was so proud!
Years later Bert moved to northern Kansas where she ran a filling station and worked in a factory building camper trailers.
In the 1990's Bert moved to Amarillo to be close to her son Steven and his family.
In 1997 Bert moved back to her hometown, Springfield, Colorado.
She went to work at The Long Term Care Facility. She enjoyed her time there very much. The residents became part of her family. Bert finally retired in 2000 because of health problems.
A very special friend came into her life, Bob Humphrey. She and Bob enjoyed going to all the ball games, watching the grandchildren play sports and school programs.
In August 2010 Bert's health issues caused her to move to the Long Term Care Center in Springfield.
She said, "it felt so strange having people caring for her, instead of her being the one giving the care".
She enjoyed her short time there and made a lot of new friends.
She will always be loved and missed by her family and her many friends. Bert's greatest joy in life was her family and her little dogs. She loved each and everyone of them more than life itself.
