Benjamin Thomas Acre Jr. 63 and his wife, Vicki Jo Acre 62, both of Walsh, Colorado, passed away on Wednesday, August 8th, 2018, in Ashford, Arizona in a tragic vehicle accident. LIFE Benjamin Acre was born to Benjamin Acre and Lela Acre September 20th 1954 in Springfield Colorado. Ben had two older siblings, sister Kathy Acre and brother Edward Acre. During his childhood and teenage years Ben attended numerous schools including, Vilas, Great Bend, Springfield and Walsh. Ben graduated from Walsh High School in 1973 and immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force. Vicki Acre was born to Marion Packard and Shirley Packard March 27th 1956 in Ulysses Kansas. Vicki has one older sibling Kim Tate and three younger siblings Kay Selman, Alan Packard and Dean Packard. Vicki attended Walsh Elementary School and Walsh Jr/Sr. High School. After Vicki graduated high school in 1974 she attended the Denver School of Nursing in Denver Colorado. While Benny was in High School, George Halderman told Benny he was going to marry Vicki Packard. Ben said "I'm not going to marry her, we're not even dating." George always mentioned this to Benny. Ben Acre married Vicki Packard on May 19th 1979 in Walsh, CO on George Halderman's birthday. They moved to Dayton Ohio, where Ben was stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. While living in Ohio, Ben and Vicki enjoyed playing cards, and spending time with friends. They would often tell their children stories of when payday came around, they would pay all of their bills, put some money in savings and have just enough money left over to go and have an ice cream cone. After a short time there, in 1980 the Air Force sent Ben and Vicki to Germany. While in Germany, they found out they were expecting their first of 3 children. On March 21st 1981 Amy Jo was born. During their time in Germany, Ben and Vicki loved to travel all over Europe, including France, Holland, Switzerland, Italy and of course Germany. They would tell their children of their many travels as well as every time they were near a beach they had to stop so Vicki could put her feet in the water because she didn't know when she would get the chance again. In 1984 Ben and Vicki's assignment in Germany came to an end and from there they were stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia. While in Virginia Beach, Ben and Vicki would have their last two children. Randi LeAnne was born June 6th 1984 and Shawn Tyler was born August 23rd 1986. So many lifelong friends were made while in Virginia Beach and some of them even made the trip to be here today. Shortly after Shawn's birth, Ben was assigned to Korea, and Vicki and the kids moved back to Walsh, Colorado during that time to be closer to family while he was away. In 1988, after his assignment in Korea, he received a commission in the United States Army as a Warrant Officer, and was assigned to Fort Hood Texas. Vicki loved to tell the story about the time when Ben was furthering his career and asked Vicki to pick him up at the base after work. He very specifically told her, "Be sure you park in the blue area in general parking." Vicki showed up just like she was supposed to, right on time. She searched for a parking spot in the very full lot and was so surprised there was one right up front that had a blue sign and said "General". She happily pulled in and prepared to wait for Benny until he was done with work. She was so happy to see him really hustle out of the building with no wait time. He frantically told her she couldn't park there. She exclaimed "YES I CAN! It is blue and says "General" parking." Benny proceeded to tell her, with flailing arms. "No Vic, its not general parking! THE General!!" While in Texas, Vicki also pursued her career as a nurse in a hospital in Killeen, Texas and occasionally would also work on the weekends in Austin. Ben would book a room at the Embassy Suites and would take the kids with him so they could all be together. On July 3rd 1993 Ben retired from the Army, moved to Haymarket Virginia and took a job working for the Department of Defense in Washington D.C and Vicki took a Nursing job with home health in Manassas, Virginia. They soon joined Community Baptist Church and were very active member. Being surrounded by such rich historical sites, it was important for Benny and Vic to experience them with their children, and they spent much time doing so. Also, every summer the family would load up in the car and travel back to Walsh to spend time with family and friends. In 2000, due to the failing health of Vicki's father, Marion, the Acre family decided to move back to Walsh. Randi graduated from Walsh High School in 2002. Benny retired from Corporate America and Vicki continued her work as a nurse. He took on (in his words) the domestic chores. He would get up every morning to have coffee and breakfast ready for Vic, pack her lunch, and occasionally even drove her to work. When she would get home, dinner would always be ready for her. In August 2004 they received the greatest title change of all. With the birth of their first grandchild, (1)Treven Batterton, they took on the names Grandma and Grandpa. Shawn graduated from Walsh High School in 2005. In May of 2006, (2)Kye Acre was born to Shawn. (3)Colby Batterton came along in February 2007. Amy and Wes Cain were married three weeks later in February 2007 and with this union came (4)Lora and (5)John Wesley Cain. A few months later in April 2007 (6)Hayden Acre joined the group, and on her first birthday, (7)Casey Cain was born. Randi became engaged to Matt Chick in July of 2016 and (8)Cayson Chick became one of us. Benny and Vic loved their grandkids and everything they were involved in and traveled to many ballgames, concerts and many other events. For example, Colby asked his grandpa to start keeping track of all of his stats so when he went into the MLB he'd have them. Benny took these requests very serious, created an excel spreadsheet for the stats, and then bought a binder to keep all of them organized. Grandma and Grandpa's presence and impact in our lives will forever be missed.
