Obituary

William David Jacob Greathouse was born December 22, 192o to William Anderson and Sara Margaret (Maggie) Haney Greathouse.  He was born near Stonington, Colorado.  He was named after his father and both grandfathers.

I have had an adventure in my lifetime so here goes the story.

Since the age of 21 Bill has been a member of the Springfield Masonic Lodge #158 A.F. and A.M.  He also belonged to the Two Buttes Independent Order of Oddfellows Lodge # 1691 I.O.O.F., having served in several offices and was a Noble Grand in 1976.

Farming and ranching began at an early age.  Bill was also in the U.S. Air Force as a carrier, transporting airplanes.  He was in the service 1942-1946.  Bill returned home from the service and resumed farming and ranching and eventually had his own operation.  Bill raised broomcorn and then wheat and milo.

Bill got married to Erma Jay Miller on August 11, 1967.  A step-daughter, Jackie Ann Miller, was also part of that family.  Jackie married John Grant Arreguy on January 29, 1970 and then here came little Miss Keyden born on October 8, 1974.

Bill received his pilot license in 1977.  The airplane was used to assist him in getting around and other farming and ranching activities.

Bill enjoyed his farming and ranching and in fact more than once he would come in the house covered with dirt from coming off the tractor.

He enjoyed family gatherings and friends coming to visit, in fact he often took friends out to eat.

Animals were also a big part of his life as well.  Often you would hear him say, "Well look at that good puppy dog" or "Oh my yes you're a good kitty cat."

Bill's nature:  he could be as kind and gentle as a kitten or stubborn as a big bull.  He got a few nicknames for this:  1 was "Mr. G", 2 was "Green Eyed Monster" and my favorite was "King Tutt".  In fact, let me tell you a quick story about King Tutt.  We were in Amarillo, Texas and gramps turns down a street.  I look at the sign and say "I believe we are going down a one-way street the wrong way."  Sitting in the passenger seat and crouching down and watching as one, two or three cars go by.  Pretty soon as we get to the end of the street, I hear King Tutt say "Oh Keks, they will move out of our way."

He also enjoyed star gazing, beautiful sunsets and driving down a dirt road by moonlight without his headlights on.

Ron Stewart was a good friend to Bill an I know he appreciated your friendship.  Norman Schrepel worked for Bill many years and I know he greatly appreciated the extra help.

To the nurses, CNAs and doctors that took care of my Gramps, I would like you all to know how much that was appreciated also.

And now it's time to close the adventure down and even though you have flown away we will always remember you and the teachings we will never forget.

William David Jacob Greathouse departed this life on Thursday, September 23, 2021.  He will be missed by family and friends.
