Obituary

Boyd Glen Horn was born on March 14, 1958, in Lamar, Colorado, to Mart and Estell Horn. At that time he joined three brothers and two sisters. He spent the first few years of his life on the family farm south of Vilas along with his parents and siblings. Around 1960 they moved into the town of Vilas. Shortly thereafter he welcomed another sister into his life; then another brother and the family was now complete.

Boyd was always into some kind of mischief with the brother that was closest to him in age – we're not naming any names! Boyd grew to adulthood in Vilas and attended Vilas Schools. During his high school years Boyd rode saddle broncs in rodeos in several different states. After one particularly hard 'dismount' Boyd gave up his rodeo career for good.

Boyd worked for different farmers in the area. He enjoyed farm work as much as he liked any kind of work! He especially loved the summer and had a great love for the last part of June or early July when fireworks went on sale. One time Boyd, his dad, brother Robert and brother-in-law Tracy went to Oklahoma to pick up a truck. It was around the Fourth of July and sure enough, Boyd had to have some firecrackers. He accidentally set the farmer's field on fire. Dad was going to whip him after the fire was put out but the farmer told Daddy that he told Boyd to blow up those ant hills so the fire was his fault. Boyd didn't get a spanking that time!

Boyd joined the Navy on February 24, 1977, but was in for only a short time. His life took a drastic change when, in his late twenty's, he was in a really bad pickup wreck. He suffered a broken neck and had to be in the hospital for a long time with a halo attached to his head with screws. Boyd was almost completely immobilized for 4 to 6 months. This affected his mind and changed his personality from the grinning, happy-go-lucky guy we always had known. He became a different person and it seemed he could no longer deal with the real world.

Boyd has lived in Cripple Creek, Colorado, for the last twelve years. A friend asked him if he like Cripple Creek because of the mountains. He said no, he liked the casinos. Boyd will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

He lived by the rule that if you couldn't say anything good about someone don't say anything. He was a good friend to everyone.

He is predeceased by his father and mother, Mart and Estell; sister, Janice; brother, Roy; grandparents, Cleve and Maude Horn and Homer Roberson. He is survived by sisters, Ella Howard of Springfield and Carlene Smith (Tracy) of Brush, Colorado; brothers, James (Virginia) of Wichita, Kansas, Robert (Debbie) of Comanche, Oklahoma, and David of Vilas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

God looked down early Sunday morning, March 13th, 2016, and needed another angel in Heaven and said, "Boyd, come with me." and away they went.
