Calvin Henry Scott passed from this life December 18,2018 just a few weeks shy of his 79th birthday. He passed at home in the early hours of the morning surrounded by his family after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Calvin was born January 6th, 1940 the youngest son to Sherman and Nettie Scott. He was one of nine children. He attended grade school at Stonington Schools where he ended his educational journey at the conclusion of his 8th grade year.
He met his future wife Nita Lorene Davis in 1957.After a 4 year courtship, They married March 13, 1960 in Clayton New Mexico. During their union they welcomed 4 children, Cathy Jo (1960), Beth Ann(1961), Calvin Todd (1963), and Douglas Leon (1964).
Calvin was always involved in his children's activities including 4-H and FFA. He was one of the only fathers who would go along on his daughters' girl scout trips and it was one of the great joys of his life to be there to enjoy the activities that his children loved.
He worked on various farms around the county, including farming for the Bitners, until he began working for Thompson Motor Company. Calvin was also a member of Walsh's Volunteer Fire Department. Although he was proud of the various jobs he had, the one that brought him the most pride was farming with his family. In 1999, they formed Scott Farms Partnership. It was on the farm where he enjoyed sharing his knowledge, experiences, and work ethic with his children and grandchildren. Calvin was very proud that his grandkids were raised on the farm and he took great joy in teaching his grandson Toby, who later returned and joined the family farming operation, everything he knew.Although things were sometimes hard, he ever complained and never quit working hard for his family.
Calvin was an avid sportsman who loved hunting and fishing. He shared his love of the outdoors with all of his kids as well as his grandkids. He enjoyed taking them along even though it often meant that he spent his whole day fixing lines for the kids and not actually fishing himself and more often than not resulted in his granddaughters stealing all of his glory as well as his coffee.
Calvin was an enthusiastic father, neighbor, and friend to all he met. He was always happy to lend a helping hand in any way he could to absolutely anyone who needed it. He was a wonderful husband , father, grandfather, uncle, and friend and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
