Obituary

Carl Eugene Hebberd was born July 25, 1937, to Leonard and Gladys (Johnson) Hebberd at Blaine, Colorado.  He passed away October 15, 2021, at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, Colorado.

Carl's life was shaped on the family farm near Walsh, Colorado.  He was welcomed by his parents and older siblings, Erma Jean, William (Bill) and Hadden.  He later became a big brother to Lloyd, Darrell, Kenny, Sharon and Melvin.  The farm was a place of togetherness, mischievousness, hard work and love.  Carl and his siblings learned the value of working hard to achieve your goals while having fun and enjoying life.  Carl attended school in Walsh.

In 1957 Carl was inducted into the United States Army where he attended the US Army Aviation School for training in aircraft maintenance.  Carl was a helicopter mechanic.  He served his country for two years with most of that time spend in Japan.  He was honorably discharged and transferred to the US Army Corps Reserves until 1963.  Carl was happy to be presented with a Quilt of Valor in November of 2019.

On June 18, 1960, Carl married Elizabeth Frederico (Beth).  Two children were born to this union, Mechele and Craig.  Mechele shared this sentiment about her father, "My father Carl Hebberd was a hard-working and generous man.  He worked long hours so that we as children could participate in various activities.  He was an important part of my brother Craig's and my love of nature and horses.  We were involved in rodeo and horse show events that Carl made possible for us participate and succeed in.  We grew up on a farm with animals and chores that taught us the importance of hard work and responsibility.  I later went off to college and Craig joined the military."

Carl worked as a dock worker and as a freight truck driver for many years before retiring.

Carl and Priscilla Humphreys created a loving home together in Vilas, Colorado where Carl semi-retired.  Carl and Priscilla enjoyed spending time together with family and friends.  Holidays and get togethers, it was guaranteed that there was going to be cards played.  Yes, Carl was a card shark.  And the life of the party!  Carl was also a wise man who shared that wisdom through his generous spirit.  He loved to help others and expected nothing in return.  Angie shared that Carl helped her through some tough times and was a second dad to her.  Carl loved and helped Bart, Angie and Clete; and was happy to be part of the family.

Carl enjoyed his farm where many a friend would stop in and visit.  Carl liked to be active and was often found tinkering on his projects.  He had a love for all things mechanical.  He enjoyed attending auctions.  Carl could envision great potential for creating something of value and necessity out of bargains that he would find.  Carl and Mike became auction buddies and what fun they had!

Hadden shared that no matter how a person might be feeling before spending time with Carl, one always came away feeling better because of Carl's joyful and positive presence.  Carl's laughter filled a room, and he was abundantly laughing and making the best of any situation.

Carl is survived by Priscilla Humphreys.  He is survived by his daughter, Mechele Bosco of Sandy, Utah; her daughter, Lindsay Cortez; and her daughters Luna Belle, and Sienna Reign.  He is survived by his son Craig Hebberd of Midland, Texas and grandsons, Chance Curtis and Ty Dean.  Carl is also survived by Angie (Mike) Willhoite of Crowley, Colorado; Jeremy (Kari) Gollihar and Kaylynn, Eric, and Eithin; Donnie (Aubrey) Gollihar and Wesley and Lennox; James Gollihar; Clete (Stephanie) Humphreys and Paul of Battle Mountain, Nevada.  Carl is survived by his bothers, Hadden Hebberd of Johnson, Kansas and Melvin (Patricia) Hebberd of Vilas, Colorado.  Carl's uplifting, ribbing, good-natured presence will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family and a multitude of friends.
