Obituary

Carl Emmett Scott, January 5, 1931 - October 16, 2010, a resident of Commerce City and Walsh, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by friends and family. Carl was born in Hugoton, Kansas, and raised in Stevens County, Kansas, until the age of 11 years. In 1942, the Scott family moved to Baca County, Colorado. Carl lived on several Baca County farms and graduated from Walsh High School as a member of the Class of 1951. Carl was most proud of his 23 years of military service in the United States Air Force. While serving, he was a B-25 Flight Engineer, B-47 Aircraft Master Crew Chief, Mace Missile Launch Non-Commissioned Officer, and Technical School Instructor. He served at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, Schilling Air Force Base, Kansas, Bitburg Air Base, Germany, and Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado. He also deployed to Spain and Libya in support of Strategic Air Command missions. Carl was promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant in 1966 and retired in 1974. In 1975, Carl returned to Baca County, Colorado, to farm milo and wheat. After retiring from the farm in 1997, Carl spent his time tinkering with old cars, welding and blacksmithing.

Carl was the oldest of four children born to Gladden Edward and Ethel Marie Scott and was a devoted husband to Lena LaDean Scott for more than 58 years. Carl will be remembered by his brother, Verlin K. Scott and significant other, Laura Smith of Kennebunk, Maine; sister, Rita DeAnn Silcox of Walsh, Colorado; son, Chief Master Sergeant, David Neal Scott (USAF Retired) and his wife, Mary Katherine Scott of Xenia, Ohio; daughter, Tammy Sue Stewart and her husband, Richard Stewart of Aurora, Colorado; granddaughter, Ashley Johnson and her husband, PO2 Kurt Johnson (USN) of San Diego, California, (currently deployed on the USS Peleiu in the Persian Gulf); Krystie Alyse Scott of Xenia, Ohio; PO2 Garrett Stewart (USN) of Whidbey Island, Washington (currently deployed to Qatar); Brandon Neal Scott of Xenia, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Velma Gregory of Walsh, Colorado, and Ruthie Lamer of St. Charles, Missouri; brother-in-law, Calvin and Nita Scott of Walsh, Colorado, along with countless other treasured nieces, nephews, family and friends. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Sherman and Nettie Scott; son, Dennis Michael Scott; sister, Linda Lea Caldwell; brothers-in-law, Elmer (Corkie) Scott, Melvin Scott, Leslie Scott; sisters-in-law Lucy Blundell, Sheila Scott and Laura Estelle Scott.

Carl touched the lives of many people with his thought provoking discussions about nearly any subject.
