Obituary

Carolyn Ganell Hume
November 3, 1935-July 30, 2013
Age: 77
Residence: Greeley, formerly of Walsh, CO
Carolyn Ganell Hume, 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Greeley on Tuesday, July 30, 2013. She was born November 3, 1935, in Elkhart, KS, to Harold Burnett and Mary Edith (Hale) Hume. She attended Konantz School and graduated from Walsh High School in 1953. She received her Certificate of Cosmetology and operated her own beauty shop in Walsh. Through the years she also worked at Walker Insurance Agency, Walsh Feed Lots, as a CNA at Walsh Hospital, and for many years raised cattle and farmed in the Walsh area.
Ganell loved the outdoors and all of God's creatures. Taking care of her many critters was her passion in life as was taking care of her family and friends. She served as both Mother and Father, caretaker and provider, teaching us to stand up for the weak and protect the helpless. Her incredible work ethic, determination and compassion were inspiring. Of all the things she loved in the world, the most precious to her were her Granddaughters, Julia and Sara, and the time she spent with them carving Halloween pumpkins from her garden, celebrating birthdays and special occasions, sharing her love of animals and simply watching them grow up. Ganell was saved by Grace through Faith and will watch over us all as our Guardian Angel.
Ganell is survived by her son, Willoughby (Cara) Hume, and Granddaughters, Julia Lauren and Sara Elizabeth Hume, all of Greeley, sister Anna Phyllis Smith of Fort Collins, brother Harold Lloyd (Rosalie) Hume of Manter, KS, brother Floyd Burnett (Hazel) Hume of Walsh, and a host of nephews, nieces, and beloved relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold Burnett and Mary Edith Hume, daughter, Merideth Jo Hume, son, Cecil Bernard Hume, brother, Jack Bennett Hume, and sister, Mary Jo Burson.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Walsh at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 4. Interment will follow the service at the Walsh Cemetery. Dykes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
