Obituary

Catherine Adeline Ballinger Dillon was born December 2, 1932 in Protection, Kansas to James and Bessie Ewing Ballinger. She passed away December 18, 2023 at age 91.

Catherine was the middle child of 7 with 4 sisters and 2 brothers. She was baptized at age 8 at the Baptist Church in Protection.

She attended school in Protection, Plains, and Manter, Kansas. She also attended school in Konantz and Walsh, Colorado. Catherine was good friends with Nina Dillon. She met Nina's brother Eugene while visiting Nina. Catherine and Eugene were married September 15, 1949 and were married for 69 years until Eugene's death April 15, 2018.

After Catherine's first 3 children were in school she worked several jobs at the Walsh hospital including housekeeping, laundry, and as a secretary. She also worked as a cook at the Walsh school and as substitute rural mail carrier.

Catherine and Eugene were blessed with a 4th child, Eric Dillon on March 10, 1971. Eric quickly became the favorite and was loved by his brothers and sister as well as his parents.

Catherine bowled in leagues most of her life. She and good friends traveled all over the country going to tournaments. She also made many trips to Branson, sometimes with family and sometimes with friends. She made the most of these trips usually attending 3 shows a day. She had a great trip with her cousin Freddie Randolph traveling to the United Kingdom. She especially enjoyed Ireland and England because of her heritage. She was always ready to go for a drive with friends for a lunch and walkabout to Crestone, Colorado Springs, Canon City or Walsenburg.

Other hobbies included reading and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed many of her children's clothes including prom and homecoming dresses as well as Cathy's wedding dress and Stan's and Kendall's suit coats for that wedding. She sewed for other people in both Walsh and Pueblo.

Catherine and Eugene made their home in Walsh until 1977. It was with great regret they moved to Pueblo, Colorado when Eugene was transferred to the post office there. Even after living in Pueblo for over 40 years Walsh was a favorite place. When Catherine's health required her to live in a nursing home Walsh was the choice. She lived there for about 2.5 years and received excellent care.

Catherine is survived by three children, Cathy (Curt) of Aurora, Stanley (Carolyn) of Ponca City Oklahoma, and Kendall of Walsh. She has two grand children, Ty (Melina) of Highlands Ranch, Kate Hughes (Nick) of Golden one great grandson, Hunter Clifton Hughes. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, her son Eric, her parents, and all her brothers and sisters.

She will be missed by a host of family and friends.
