Obituary

Cecil Bernard Hume was born Sept. 9, 1958, in Walsh, CO to Ganell Hume and Cecil Schooley and his time with us ended on March 20, 2010. He graduated from Walsh High School where he was active in baseball and basketball. He then went to work at the Climax Molybdenum Mine in Leadville, CO before returning to Walsh where he was employed at the Colorado Gasohol plant. On July 3, 1980, Cecil had a debilitating automobile accident leaving him a quadriplegic. After completing his rehabilitation at Craig Hospital in Denver, he returned to Walsh and was cared for by his grandmother, Edith, and mother, Ganell. After his accident, Cecil went on to attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins with his brother, Will. In 1990, Cecil was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and Accounting from CSU. Upon graduation he returned to Walsh to be surrounded by a multitude of family and friends whom he cherished. Cecil had a passion for baseball and soon discovered a talent for teaching skills to young players, especially young pitchers, when he volunteered as a coach for the Baca County Little League and Babe Ruth programs. This brought a great fulfillment to Cecil's life and he inspired many while touching the lives of the kids he coached. In 2004, Cecil and Ganell moved to Greeley, CO to be near his nieces, Julia and Sara. He was delighted watching them grow and encouraging them in school and sports. He continued in administration of the Baca Youth Baseball programs until the time of his death.

Survivors include his mother, Ganell Hume of Greeley; his brother, Willoughby Hume, sister-in-law Cara Hume, niece Julia Hume, niece Sara Hume all of Greeley; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Edith Hume; his father, Cecil Schooley; and his sister, Meridith Hume.

Services will be held at 10:00 Saturday, March 27, at the First Baptist Church in Walsh, CO with Dykes Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
