Obituary

Celsa Susie Vasquez was born September 18, 1944, in Laredo, Texas to Carlos Rangel and Celsa Idrogo.
She passed away February 9, 2013, at her home in Lamar, Colorado, surrounded by those who loved her.

Susie is survived by her children: Maria Ramirez and husband Cristino, Linda Fuentes and Pedro Morales, Lilly Martinez and husband Guillermo, Jessie Soliz and wife Judi and Emilia Soliz (Tate) and boyfriend Don Lynn. She is also survived by her brothers, Eddie Rangel and wife Debbie and Carlos Rangel. Numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, son Martin Martinez, brother Ricky Rangel and sister Virginia and several aunts and uncles.

Susie was not only a mother to her children, she was also a father figure. She enjoyed her music and being around family and friends. At times when she listened to her music she would move all the furniture away from the middle of the living room, turn up the volume and dance with her kids. To her kids' amazement, once they were all out of the house, she decided to go to work in Dumas, Texas, in the laundry department of the nursing home there. Her kids were so proud of her even though she only worked a year. Her youngest daughter Emilia remembers Susie calling her and telling her she didn't like the way the boss wanted her to do things; Emilia would tell her mom "that's part of working for someone, Mom."

Susie would say at times that being the only girl in her family was hard but at least she was the oldest! She enjoyed visits with her brother Eddie; the daily phone calls and prayers over the phone with her brother Ricky whom she missed greatly after his passing and the daily coffee/breakfast visits with brother Carlos. Carlos's daughter, Lucia, and Susie's daughter, Emilia, had such a fun time when their respective parent would call them to recount the news of the day even if it was an argument!

Susie told Emilia once that she loved all her kids: Maria because she was the oldest and never complained, Martin because even though he was raised by her mother Celsa Idrogo, he was her son, Linda because she was a lot like Susie-feisty, Lilly because she would take her places, Jessie because even though he gave her a hard time he became a wonderful man. Emilia asked her Mom, "What about me?" Susie responded, "I love you because you are my baby papoose."

Susie loved everyone and she was never afraid to tell you what she thought. She would say, "If you don't like what I say, there's the door." She loved her kids with all her heart and missed being around them all the time. She made sure that they always forgave each other and loved each other because, she would tell them, you never know what will happen.

Susie loved her long hair and her braids. We loved her and will miss her wonderful smile but we will always be proud of the legacy she left.
