IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clayton Ward
Tevebaugh
January 1, 1932 – June 2, 2024
Clayton Ward (CW) Tevebaugh passed away at Morton County Hospital on June 2nd, 2024 at the age of 92, with his son and daughter at his side.
CW was born to Ward and Thelma Tevebaugh, 10 miles north and 10 miles west of Springfield CO, in the middle of a snow storm on New Year's Day 1932. He spent his early childhood years growing up on the Kohler ranch along the Cimarron River in Oklahoma. At about age 10 or 11 his family bought a farm 14 miles southeast of Boise City where he attended Plainview school, and graduated in 1950.
After a very short courtship (about a month), he married Freda May Martin on January 22nd 1951, and gained a sweet curly headed daughter, Donnita Kay. In August of 1952 they added a son to the family, Dennis Jay. The baby of the family, Judy Ann, came along October 6th, 1955. In 1957, the family moved just a few miles north of the Cimarron River, in southeast Colorado.
CW always had a great love for horses, and quickly ditched his farming endeavor to focus more on ranching. Along with ranching, he developed a passion for team roping. CW traveled many early mornings and late nights all over for ropings. For many years, CW and Freda hosted a yearly roping at their home arena, with people from all the surrounding areas coming to enjoy.
CW was widely known for his great love of family. His children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great greats were the highlight of his days. He enjoyed nothing more than teaching them silly rhymes and riddles…..some of which the kids found out were not appropriate to be repeated at school. Additionally, he also had a great love for his many nieces, nephews, and other children that knew CW and Freda's as their second home.
For the last several years, CW resided in the assisted living facility in Elkhart, Kansas. He very much enjoyed visiting with all the caregivers and other residents living in his "mansion".
CW was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Freda Tevebaugh, his parents Ward and Thelma Tevebaugh, mother and father-in-law Roma and Eugene Martin, sister Reba Sellers, brother Olen Tevebaugh, daughter Donnita Barnes, granddaughter Madonna Barnes, grandson-in-law Bobby Vargo, and granddaughter-in-law Jenny Elsen.
