David Wayne Stroup was born January 16, 1956, and passed away at Walsh Healthcare Center on September 29, 2023.  David was born in Ulysses, Kansas to Nelson and Velma Acres Stroup.  He was brought home to the farm near the Kansas/Colorado state line where his dad was employed.  At home is where David met his big brother, Eugene.  In the next ten years, he was joined with a sister, Debora, and two more brothers, Philip and Timothy.

When David was three years old, his older brother Eugene, who was five at the time, spotted a rattlesnake near David and dragged his little brother to safety.  David was not very happy about big brother dragging him off, but he did not realize the danger he was in.  When David was 9 or 10, he developed tonsillitis and had to go to Johnson, Kansas where he had his tonsils removed.

Dave began school in Manter, Kansas along with his siblings.  Then in 1966, the family moved to the Walsh, Colorado area to a house a mile or so north of town.  This is where they lived all through the years that the kids attended and finished their schooling at the Walsh Public School.  David graduated from Walsh High School in 1975.

After graduation, David worked for Mr. and Mrs. Dickerson who farmed north of Walsh near the Star Church.  Later Davide went with his dad to Pecos, Texas to work in a feedlot.  After five years, they moved back to Walsh where they both went to work at the Baca County Feeders just east of town.  After leaving the feedlot in the mid 1990's, David and Eugene bought a house together in Walsh where David worked various jobs over the years.  His most recent job was working for his good friend, Doug Hetrick, at Hetrick's Ag & Auto.  David lived in the home until he was 63 years old.  In 2019, David and Eugene moved to Holt Manor where David lived until he moved to the Walsh Healthcare Center where he passed away from end stage Parkinson's Disease on Friday, September 29, 2023.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Velma Stroup.  He is survived by his three brothers and one sister, Eugene residing at Southeast Colorado LTC, Debora of Palm Bay, Florida, Philip (Gigi) of Pecos, Texas, and Timothy of Lamar, Colorado, two nephews, and three great nieces.

The family would like to thank all the staff and workers at Walsh Healthcare Center for their care of David while he made his home there.  Any memorials can be given to the Walsh Healthcare Center in memory of David Wayne Stroup.

Recently, David told Mitzi Jett, "I am going to Heaven.  Good people will take my hand when I get there."

David will be missed by his family and many friends.
