IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald Leroy
Hetrick
July 13, 1940 – February 11, 2019
Donald Leroy Hetrick born on July 13, 1940 to Carl and Anna (Robins) Hetrick, as the 13 th child of 14, passed away on February 11, 2019, at the age of 78 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Leroy attended the country school of Konantz for the first 8 grades of school and attended Walsh High School graduating in 1958. To this date, his classmates were a very close nit "family" with so many happy get-togethers, reunions and trips. Many calls and visits in the last 30 months were received from this group along with other friends and family members.
After graduating high school he worked with Rhinehart repairing wells; Town of Walsh as Police officer and then Marshall; then numerous natural gas companies and also a volunteer fire fighter with Walsh Fire Department. He also served as Fire Chief during part of his time with the department.
One of Leroy's enjoyments of life was camping even though he never got to take his grandson. In the summer months on the weekends when he was not on call for his job with the gas company, you would find him headed out of town on Friday evenings at 5oclock to Archer's Acres near San Isabel to watch for deer, hummingbirds and cool off until time to head down the hill come noonish on Sunday. The annual Hetrick reunions with siblings, nephews and nieces continued the tradition for several years.
Upon retirement in 2002, Leroy kept busy by making different items with marble board games being the main item and traveling with these items (along with items made by wife) to craft shows, and word of mouth and shipping, until diagnosed with cancer. At last count he had made approximately 2500 marble board games and was still receiving calls 2 years later for these games.
Leroy leaves in mourning his wife, Linda Rae Mayhan whom he married March 8, 1974; daughter LaRae (Tony) Overcashier and grandson Landon of Guymon, OK; son Lance (Dorothy) of Walsh; brothers Wayne of Garden City, KS, and Kent (Marilyn) of Walsh; brother in law Robert Froman of Avondale; sister-in-law Royalyn Archer of Oklahoma City, OK; brother-in-law Robert (Clyde) Mayhan of Springtown, TX; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lois, Lila, Elva, Imogene, Evelyn, Loretta and Joan; brothers Darrell, Robert, Keith and Leon.
