Donald Earl Lock was born September 13, 1929, in Arlington, Kansas, to Joseph Earl and Hazel Ruth Lock and departed this life December 28, 2011 at the age of 82 years.

Don was the eldest of five children and grew up on the family farm northeast of Campo, Colorado. As a school age child he attended the country school, Star, and rode a horse to school along with his other siblings. Sometimes if it was snowing, they would all load up on a car hood to be pulled to school thru the snow. These were good times for Don and he loved to recall these special days.

Later Don attended high school in the Vilas school district where he was an active participant in both baseball and basketball. Don had a special bond with several of his classmates and would remain lifelong friends.
During these high school days Don had an eye for a cheerleader named Veta Fay Konkel.
Once Mr. Konkel finally allowed Veta to go to the movies with Don, the rest became history. They were always together. Don and Veta were united in marriage in 1948 and enjoyed 62 years together. They lived in a small home built on the family farm, where Don and his father were farming together.
To this union three children were born.
Jennifer Gail, Shelley Renee, and Royce Earl.
As the family grew, so did the house. Don was quite a carpenter, no job to big, and of course, Veta made it a beautiful home for the family.
As the years passed, the family grew and Don and Veta welcomed the addition of eight grandchildren.

Together they worked in the farming community, planting lots of broomcorn during the "Broomcorn Era", and of course always a wheat crop and some milo too.
Don was very active in the American Agriculture Movement and he was very proud of being a farmer and rancher. He loved to turn the earth and the sweet smell of newly turned soil.
When times became harder, he worked in Canon City, Colorado for a while driving a truck and later Don and Veta headed for the East Coast to hang on to the family farm and heritage.

Life wasn't always easy but Don and Veta had heard the Lord's gospel and accepted the Lord into their lives in 1954. Through this, God always guided and directed their lives.
With Veta's passing in March of 2011, Don was very lonely and missed her so.
Don's faith in the Lord and His Promise, comforted him in his final days until he was called home.
Don was the best father to his children and always lived his life in a way that would show them the way for all things. I believe his example before his children could best be described as "Quiet Love".

Don is survived by his daughters Jennifer and husband Sam Woods of Gardnerville, Nevada; Shelley and husband Neil Winberg of Omaha, Nebraska; and son Royce Lock of Campo, Colorado; eight grandchildren; Alissa Ann Woods and Alanna Lea Woods of Reno, Nevada; Shane Ashley Winberg and wife Sarah of Overland Park Kansas ; Natasha Dawn Winberg and husband Duane of Loveland, Colorado, Branda Jo Lock of Los Angeles, California, Savannah Gail Lock of Perryhall Maryland, Shalah Ann Lock of Forresthill Maryland, and Thomas Dettling of Morgantown, West Virginia. He is also survived by sisters Marjorie Hutches of Vilas, Colorado; Donna Self of Springfield, Colorado, Lenora Johnson of Eaton, Colorado and a brother Ed Lock and wife Joyce of Dallas, Texas; in addition to many nieces and nephews and a host of friends and relatives.
