Obituary

Dorothy Lee Bryan passed away at the age of 82 on November 29, 2012, at the Walsh Healthcare Center. Dorothy Lee was born at the family home in Stonington, Colorado, on April 1, 1930. She was the eldest daughter born to Frederick Lee and Effie Pearl Twyford. The family moved to Johnson, Kansas, shortly after her birth where she attended her first years of grade school and at the age of 7 was blessed with a younger sister, Reba Mae. In 1943 the family moved back to Stonington and Dorothy Lee attended high school in Walsh. It was during her time in school at WHS that she met Harold Bryan. They had been courting for a few years when Harold was drafted into the US Army in 1945. Harold returned home in 1946, and on August 24, 1947, Harold and Dorothy Lee were united in marriage in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After the wedding, they returned home to the Bryan family homestead where Harold farmed with his father and brother and Dorothy Lee helped her mother-in-law and sister-in-law cook and clean for broomcorn men. Harold and Dorothy Lee were blessed with 3 children: Gary Wayne of Walsh, born on April 28, 1951, Dwight Allen of Pasadena, California, born January 4, 1954, and Janet Gay of Walsh, born April 21, 1961. Harold and Dorothy Lee lived for many years on the Bryan family farm. It was then that Dorothy Lee found her passion for cooking. She, along with her mother-in-law, Lois, and sister-in-law, Betty Jo, prepared 3 meals a day for broomcorn men, as well as raising the children and cleaning the home. Harold and Dorothy Lee attended the First Baptist Church of Walsh with their family and were both saved together in 1956. Because she was married before graduating high school, Dorothy Lee had earned her GED, which allowed her to get her ART (accredited records technician) certification. It was then that Dorothy began working at the Walsh District Hospital, in 1974, in the medical records department. She worked there for 14 years until her health forced her to retire. Soon after her retirement, she decided to pursue a small career as a Tupperware distributor. She hosted Tupperware parties for upwards of 20 years. Dorothy Lee enjoyed spending time in the kitchen preparing meals for her family and baking goodies for the grandkids, gardening and square dancing with their many friends.

Dorothy Lee is preceded in death by her parents Lee and Pearl Twyford; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Fred and Lois Bryan and her brother-in-law, Paul Bryan.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harold Bryan; her 3 children and their spouses; Gary and Cheryl Bryan of Walsh, Dwight and Jenny Bryan of La Canada, California, and Janet and Larry Villers of Walsh; her sister, Reba Miller of Amarillo, Texas and sister-in-law, Betty Jo Bryan of Walsh. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Lance, Zach (and wife Carly), Chantz, Ciri, Kelsey (and husband Matt) and Logan and one great-granddaughter, Laykin and several nieces and nephews.
