Obituary

Dorothy Jane Utt was born on April 30, 1922 in Elkhart, KS to John and Virgie George. Dorothy was one of ten children – 7 boys and 3 girls. She received her education in a one-room schoolhouse in Richards, CO. She moved to Walsh, CO for her senior year, graduating in 1940.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Darrel Utt, on August 22, 1942 in Boise City, OK. Their life together was full of great joy, love, and laughter. Out of this marriage came four children, adding much fulfillment to their life. From 1946 until 1991, Dorothy and Darrel lived on their farm just south of Vilas. Dorothy enjoyed her life as a mother and farmwife. She took great pride in nurturing and raising a good family. In September of 1991, Darrel and Dorothy purchased their home in Vilas, Colorado. Darrel died on February 17, 1992. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary that year.

Dorothy was a strong, yet gentle woman. She worked diligently to take care of her home and children. Her home was always filled with good food, lots of love, and laughter. She loved to tend to her garden, and she maintained a beautiful yard. Dorothy enjoyed listening to music, and she loved to dance. Other hobbies that Dorothy enjoyed were embroidery and crocheting. She cared for all members of her family and she was proud of each and every one of them.

Dorothy remained in their home in Vilas until 2004 when a stroke forced her to move into the assisted living facility in Walsh, Colorado. She remained there for four years before she had to move into the nursing home. It was there that she took ill with pneumonia.

Dorothy departed this life on December 18, 2010 at her home in Vilas, Colorado with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Virgie George; her siblings, Lorene Green, Elmer "Buck" George, Arthur George, John "Jim" George, Jr., Charles "Chuck" George, Lester George, Clifford George, Cecil George, and Helen Prachar; her husband, Darrel Utt; one grandson, Justin Chad Hollar; and a son-in law, Billy Schroder.

Dorothy is survived by her four children, Darrel Wayne Utt of Campo, CO; Beverly (Vance) Alfrey of Vilas, CO; Karen (Tim) Courkamp of Lamar, CO; and Brenda (Tim) King of Canyon, TX; nine grandkids, four step-grandkids, 9 great grandkids with 2 on the way, and 5 step-great grandkids.

Dorothy has been called home by God and is at rest in a peaceful place. She is dancin' with Darrel. Dorothy left this life knowing she was truly loved and appreciated. She will be greatly missed.

Goodbye Mom, Grandma, Aunt Dorothy, dear friend. You were an amazing woman!
