IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Douglas Keith
Brown
May 8, 1953 – December 28, 2022
Douglas Keith Brown transitioned to his heavenly home on December 28th, 2022. His strong faith in Jesus got him through his time of earthly struggle with cancer and he went to be with his Lord surrounded by family, much love, and song. Doug was born on May 8th, 1953, in Elkhart Kansas to his parents Vernon Alexander Brown and Frances Opal Brown of Campo Colorado.
Doug grew up south of Walsh Colorado on the family farm and ranch where he learned a strong work ethic helping his parents, Vernon and Frances Brown and his three brothers. He enjoyed the bond formed with his dad, helping him out around the place. He attended Walsh High School and graduated in 1971. After high school Doug was ready to shake the dust of rural Baca County off his feet and see new places. He headed off to CSU Pueblo to study. A year into this venture he became impressed that his true calling involved a transition to Western Bible College, where he studied Christian Education. He met Deborah Leah Babcock at Bear Valley Baptist Church, while in Bible College. They fell in love and were married in 1976, and had four children: Ellie Marie, Eric Vernon, Luke Daniel and Kyle Walter. While living in the Denver area Doug worked, driving a semi, for Gates Forming. After his dad, Vernon Brown, passed he felt the urge to get back to his roots so moved his new little family (wife Debbie and four-month-old daughter Ellie) back to the home place where he grew up. Doug was very happy to have the privilege of raising his family on the farm and in the same house he grew up in, and many fond memories were made there over the years. Doug loved farming and ranching and the simple rural life as well as the opportunity it offered for him to be in close connection with his children over the years as he and Debbie homeschooled them. He was also able to live closer to his mother, Frances and his three brothers who also lived in the area. Doug was very devoted to his faith in Christ and his church and served in many capacities there, including as the youth minister for many years. In later years he enjoyed work in Kairos Prison Ministry.
Doug will be remembered as the down to earth guy he was, who strove to live the best he could with God's help. He was very focused on others and will be remembered for his kindness and friendliness to all, animated storytelling and his strong faith. Doug's main passion was his family, and he loved spending quality time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His other passions and interests included farming and ranching, reading, riding motorcycles, and his pets (especially his dogs). He was especially passionate about good conversation and didn't know a stranger. He spent quality time with his children and grandchildren through his original story telling, often inventing his own clever tales that were a delight for all. He especially enjoyed the extra time he was able to spend connecting to his grandchildren while receiving cancer treatments in the Denver area in recent years. He will live on in a better place with his Lord and Savior as well as in our memories and through his children and grandchildren alike.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years - Debbie Brown of Walsh; Devoted Children - Ellie Brown of Longmont CO, Luke Brown and wife, Heather of Thornton CO, and Kyle Brown of Troy, AL; Adoring Grandchildren - Adelle Kanaar, Micah Kanaar, and Carly, Emersyn, and Logan Brown; his loving mother: Frances Brown (age 106); and his three older brothers - Corwin Brown and wife Carol Brown, Lloyd Brown and wife Karen Brown, and John Brown and wife Patricia Brown; Siblings in law and their spouses - Teri and Jim Clardy, Dan and Julie Ann Babcock and Julie Babcock and David Sislowski; as well as many nieces and nephews and other family and friends. Doug was greeted in Heaven by his father Vernon Alexander Brown and his son Eric Vernon Brown, as well as his grandparents: Lloyd Alexander Brown, and Lottie Belle Brown, and Martin Benjamin Miller and Veronica "Fannie" Miller.
