IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eric Ira
Alfrey
December 1, 1974 – January 31, 2022
Eric Ira (Ei) Alfrey, 47 Dec. 1, 1974 - Jan. 31, 2022
His Spirit came to & departed from this Earth in Baca County, Colo.
Eric Ira "Ei" Alfrey was born Dec. 1, 1974 to Virgil Lee and E. Marie (Loffland) Alfrey. Eric was the youngest of 10 children (with Virgil) including 6 (with Marie) as his Dad was married twice. He was proud to be the 7th son.
Eric got his height from his 6'6" Irishman grandpa Ralph Edward on his Mom's side. Early on his siblings knew he was gonna be okay, as he self taught how to make Mac-N-Cheese at age 3 (just from watching his Momma cook).
School bored him so he got his GED and made a point to expand his intellect through vocabulary and philosophy.
From Colorado Ei moved to Greensburg, KS briefly then Huntington Beach, CA and on to Glendale Oregon in the mid 90's. He lived in Grants Pass OR over 20 years He worked at Swanson/Superior Plywood for 17 years, taking college courses at night to become a supervisor in a staff management role. Eric found a beautiful lady his height and made her his bride in May 1998 (Crystle O'Dell). They bought a house on ten acres near Glendale, OR. He often said Crystle was "the best thing that ever happened to him". He became heavily active in her Native tribe embracing his own Indian heritage. When her extended family experienced death and incarceration circumstances, Eric and Crystle took in her nephew Joseph for seven years.
Eric enjoyed traveling and playing golf. He owned a landscape business on the side of a full career and mentoring duties. He encouraged Joseph and watched him excel in football, baseball and his studies.
Ei loved trees. He was an expert at felling, lumberjack and the whole process. If you ever got onto the subject of plywood or reforestation, you better get comfortable as you were in for an education. (Same might be said for topics of American History, politics, and the Constitution) Eric moved on to an innovative career with Krauss Craft / Playcraft playground equipment company in Merlin, OR for several years. He then landed his dream job at Roseburg Country Club. He was popular Golf Pro with the youth there and too much so with the ladies. He was divorced in 2019. I Cor. 6:15
Eric helped his widowed mother, Marie at her home in Bartlesville, OK for several months. His interest aligned with brother, Steven in Garden City, KS recently to provide housing to disabled veterans. Together, they built the foundation of a Nationwide Veteran Homelessness organization.
Eric was proceeded in death by his dad Virgil, his brother Tommy, his sister Rebecca (aka: Becky or Reba), and his sister Rachael.
He is survived by his mother Marie of Bartlesville, OK; his aunt River Webster of Prosser, WA; his brother Danny (Jennifer) of Woodland Park, CO their kids Tiffany and Gregory of Claremore, OK; brother Michael (Gayane) of Huntington Beach, CA; brother Philip (Melissa) of Modesto, CA; brother Steven (Shawn) of Graden City, KS; sister Barbara Barnett of Garden City, KS; brother Marc Drew of Phoenix AZ; (Reba's kids) Cody, Trever, Dalton Knapp from MO, Madison (Nick) Sulzer and son Whitly, Fallon Olf of KC, MO and Jamison Pulium, of Eldorado, KS; (Rachael's kids) Dillion Alfrey and McKenzie & her son Griffin of Hutchison KS; as well as Crystle's neice and nephew Angelina Marie, and Joseph T.D. of Grants Pass Oregon.
In lieu of flowers, Plant a Tree. seriously. You can do it. Peace.
(& please consider getting the word out to help end Veteran homelessness, Thank-you)
Even over the distances, Ei loved him some Denver Broncos football with his brothers. Salute,
• Ei requested to be cremated and private celebration of life events to take place at the Minneapolis Cemetery in Colo., near the tribal waterfalls in Southwestern Oregon, and in HB Calif. Dates TBD.
