Etta May attended Murrey country school and Vilas High School. In April of 1946, she married the love of her life, Laurence Dow Chick of Campo. They lived and farmed in the Campo area until they moved to Springfield in 1994.
She was a great inspiration to family and community. Etta was a faithful wife working and playing alongside her husband whether it was fishing, hunting, gardening, canning or baking cakes for church activities. Her ready laugh and sense of humor spread cheer to all those around her. She loved a good conversation, in person or on the phone. She also loved to watch rodeos, the color blue and her Lord Jesus Christ.
Etta May received the Lord Jesus on May 20, 1950, at home while listening to a radio preacher. Encouraged by her sister Nina, she was baptized August 31, 1952, at the First Baptist Church in Campo. She faithfully prayed for her husband four times a day until he was saved in 1957. They remained inseparable the rest of their lives and will be reunited in the Lord for eternity.
A self-taught musician, she loved to play hymns, patriotic songs, etc.
Etta May taught Sunday school in Campo and loved these Bible verses:
Proverbs 3:5-7 "Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, And do not rely on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight."
John 11:25-26 "Jesus said to her I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me, even if he should die, shall live; And everyone who lives and believes in Me shall by no means die forever. Do you believe this?"
Acts 2:37d-38 "…What shall we do brothers? And Peter said to them Repent and each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Matthew 28:19-20 "Go therefore and disciple all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you all the days until the consummation of the age."
John 10:27-29 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; And I give to them eternal live, and they shall by no means perish forever and no one shall snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all, and no one can snatch them out of My Father's hand."
