Obituary

Eugene Vernon Noe was born July 5, 1939 in Springfield, Colorado.  The oldest of 8 children born to Sim and Trela Noe, he and his siblings -- Jack, Merlyn, Shirley, Charlotte, Jerry, John, & David grew up helping on the family farm and ranch.  When he started to school in Kim, Colorado, he learned there was a whole world beyond the 6 sections of land he grew up on.

After graduating from high school, Gene and Albert Rose took off to set the world on fire.  Their first job was on the Vermejo Park Ranch in New Mexico.  They worked for $5 a day and quickly learned they weren't going to get ahead very fast.  Gene returned to Kim to work for Brother McArthur, and after a stint there, decided to join the Army. After boot camp, his unit was disbanded, forcing him to finish his tour of duty serving in the National Guard. It was during this time that he tried his hand at breaking colts for Bud Konkel.  It was there he met and fell in love with "Blondie", the boss's daughter.  They married on October 10, 1965 and started their family with Warnetta being born on August 3, 1966 and Tressa on May 19, 1968.  Gene continued working for Bud, raising & training horses and farming.  Together they built Konkel Feedlot, and Gene continued to farm & run the feedlot for Bud as well as adding farm ground of his own.  Gene was a supporter of the Baca County Junior Livestock sale and many local activities.  He went to many ball games and horse shows to watch his girls and later to support his grandchildren.

Gene always enjoyed his cows and always calved out some heifers.  His red Angus were number one quality and he was always improving the herd.  He was an excellent caretaker and took in cattle when there was extra wheat and weaned heifers for several friends and neighbors.

Gene passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 in his home on the farm at the age of 82. He and Lynda had been married for 55 years.  He is survived by Lynda; 2 children -- Warnetta & Terry Martin of Canyon, TX and Tressa Turner of Pratt, KS; 2 grandchildren---Krysta Turner & Gus Rivero of Wichita, KS and Hagen & Amy Turner of Pratt, KS; and 2 great-grandchildren --- Zayleigh and RynLee Turner of Pratt, KS; 5 siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene will be remembered as someone who took great pride in the way he cared for the land and his cattle.  He was also someone you could turn to for good ol' wisdom and common sense and he was always glad to help out a friend, neighbor, or the community.  HIS was a life well-lived and one that spoke volumes about the kind of man he was.
