Geneva Ruth Boggess Schweizer or Geets as she was known to her family, age 88, died
July 25, 2017 at the Walsh Health Care Center. She died of complications due to an aggressive
form of Leukemia.
Geneva was born in Webers Falls, OK February 22, 1929 to Harvey Lee and Annie
Marie Laster Boggess. To Harvey and Annie were born eight children: Pearlene, Hazel May,
Geneva Ruth, Betty Jean, Frida Maxine, Helen Marie, Charlotte Lucille, and Billy Lee.
At age three, Geneva's family moved back to Missouri and settled in Cassville. The
family lived there working as farm migrant laborers and would often travel to other states for
work.
In 1943, Geneva and her family came to Baca County Colorado to harvest broomcorn.
Here, she met and married Earl Glen Schweizer on October 02, 1945. To this union, six children
were born. Barbara Ann, Glendon Earl, Earlene Kay, Glenda Jeanette, Linette Elaine, and
Marsha Lin.
Geneva was a hard worker and was employed at many different jobs. These included
working at the Walsh dry cleaning and grocery stores prior to meeting Earl. After marrying, she
worked as a waitress, worked in the broom corn factory for several years and as a CNA at the
Walsh hospital. After retiring from the hospital she worked her favorite job as the Walsh
librarian. Geneva loved children, as the librarian she got to spend many happy hours reading to
them and passing out candy. Geneva's love of children and faith lead her to teach Sunday
School for many years at the Walsh Wesleyan church.
Geneva had a few hobbies which included sewing, crocheting and of course her favorite
was baking. Geneva created extraordinary recipes for pies, cakes, cookies and bread. One
year, after entering a contest, she won the grand champion for the bread she submitted. She
was very proud of this accomplishment and spoke often of it.
Survived by children Barbara (Curtis) Houser, Glendon Schweizer, Linette Schweizer,
and Marsha (Shaugn) Thompson, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and five
great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Betty, Helen, Charlotte and numerous
nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved dog Lily.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, daughters Earlene and
Glenda, granddaughter Shala, grandson Curtis Jr, sisters Pearlene, Hazel, Maxine, and brother
Bill.
