Obituary

Harold Lee Gibson was born in Elkhart, KS on May 1st, 1947 to Harold Glen & Rosalee Gibson. He was the first of four children; Harold Lee, Nancy, Mona & Robin.

Harold attended primary school in Bartlett, Colorado with his younger sister, Nancy. Afterwards he attended high school in Walsh, Colorado. When Harold was 12 & 14, he was delighted to have 2 new siblings, Mona Lenore and Robin Leslie. Interesting tidbit was that Harold & Nancy picked the names for Mona Lenore. Another tidbit; Harold bought brother Robin a pair of cowboy boots when Rob was 4, but Rob would only wear tennis shoes!

In 1966 Harold married Shirley Mason of Springfield, Colorado and they had two children, William Glen Gibson and Leslie LeeAnn (Gibson) Steinbeck. Harold worked early on as a cowboy handling cattle at the feedlot and was always a cowboy at heart for the rest of his life.

Harold joined the Army National Guard in 1968, but his military service was cut short due to a car accident in 1969 where he was severely injured while working on his car at the roadside. After many months in the hospital Harold eventually lost a leg due to this accident. After finally coming home from the hospital, Harold attended college at Lamar Community College and Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma. Despite attending college to become an accountant, Harold was not ready to sit at a desk for work and he subsequently worked in various roles to include mechanic and a welder (both construction & pipeline certified). His brother-in-law, Glen Frost, initially convinced Harold to take the pipeline welding test and they went onto enjoy working on many projects together. In 1978 Harold returned to Walsh to work for his Uncle Bud Bitner constructing the Colorado Gasohol Plant. He performed a lot of the welding jobs & operated the crane at the construction site. In 1981, Harold & Shirley divorced and shortly after the divorce, LeeAnn would not go to school. Harold convinced the teacher to let LeeAnn bring his welding torch striker to school with her as enticement for her to attend class. This did work to get LeeAnn to school, but she did not stay & actually beat her Aunt Nancy back home! Later Harold became reacquainted with a high school classmate, Bonnie Wren & they subsequently married and relocated to Wiley, Colorado where Harold worked as an accountant for several years at Colorado Beef feed yards near Wiley. Harold & Bonnie delighted in raising and interacting with their blended family of six children: William Gibson, LeeAnn Gibson, Roger Brown, Ronda Brown, Brenda Brown and Mike Flores. In 1988, Harold & Bonnie relocated to Barstow, California where they resided until 1999, when they returned to Walsh where they could provide assistance with care of Harold's mother, Rosalee and Bonnie's mother, Elsie Wren. They sat up a home in the old town of Bartlett, Colorado where they resided for the remainder of their lives.

Bonnie was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and after being cared for by Harold and her children for several years at Bartlett, she passed away in December 2020. The passing of his beloved wife significantly impacted Harold as he greatly missed her over the next couple of years. Additionally, Harold & Bonnie suffered a devastating loss of property due to the Badger Hole wildfire in 2018, essentially Harold & Bonnie lost all of their possessions other than what they were able to quickly grab prior to evacuation on that terrible day. Harold & Bonnie were very resilient and returned to Bartlett and reestablished another home there despite the fire's destruction and Bonnie's ongoing battle with cancer. Harold was diagnosed with renal disease in 2022 and began dialysis in March 2023. Harold & Mona were both badly injured in a head-on collision when returning from a dialysis treatment on 23 JUN 2023. Harold suffered a brain bleed, broken leg, arm and hip from the accident. He was transported via flight-for-life from Springfield to Aurora, Colorado due to these injuries. Harold spent the next several months in multiple medical facilities in the Denver area where he was treated for his injuries. Harold was very fortunate that his beloved niece, Kara (Meano) Gibson lived locally in Denver was very instrumental in ensuring that Harold received the best care available there in Denver. After bouncing back & forth between a stint at home, various medical facilities & short visit with his son in Riverside, California, Harold was admitted on 20 DEC 2023 to Clear Creek Care Center in Westminster, Colorado. While bittersweet, the road trip for Harold & William provided opportunity for them to talk about many things; Harold complimented Will many times on his driving abilities during this road trip (quite contrary to anyone else whom has ridden any distance with Will in a car!)

Harold passed while sleeping at the Clear Creek Care Center on 20 JAN 2024. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie (Wren) Gibson, father, Glen Gibson, mother, Rosalee (Bitner) Gibson, Grandparents, Pete and Gladys Bitner, Les and Iva Gibson, sister Nancy Morgan, nephew Jackie Frost, great nephew Mason Frost, great grandson Brodie Allison, grandson, Jacob Michael Brown, son-in-law, Tim Steinbeck, and grandson-in-law, Jefferson Bonnet.
