Obituary

Harold Herbert Stoddard was born November 1, 1923 at Grenville, New Mexico to Harry and Nora Stoddard. He was number nine of ten children. Harold Stoddard passed away on November 10, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Nora Stoddard; sisters-Nina, Opal and Lavon; brothers-Russell, Ted and Pete. Also preceding him death was his wife Goldie of 64 years.

Surviving are brothers J.D. Stoddard of Liberal, Kansas, Ralph (Norma) Stoddard of Hugoton, Kansas and one sister Geneva Bruner of Kismet, Kansas. Also surviving are his five children Tim Stoddard of Guerneyville, California, Sam (Loretta) Stoddard of LaJunta, Colorado, Becky (Everett) Brisendine of Walsh, Colorado, Miriam Hill of Gilmer, Texas and Jim (Michelle) Stoddard of Liberal, Kansas, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A large part of Harold's childhood was spent with his older sister Opal and her husband J.O. Richardson of Hugoton, Kansas. He joined forces with the Marines in 1941 at 17 years of age. He was an unbeliever at this time, but had joined the Corps with a buddy Kenneth Hawk from Liberal, Kansas who continually spoke to him about things of the Lord, but to no avail. When they arrived in the South Pacific, they became separated and Kenneth was killed on Guam while Harold fought on Saipan and Tinian. Harold returned State side on January 23, 1945 and married Goldie two days later.

They both accepted Christ as their Savior on December 7, 1950 and later dedicated their lives to the work for the Lord. They went to Bible School and then moved from Liberal, Kansas to LaBarge, Wyoming to start a church. In 1965 Harold moved his family from LaBarge, Wyoming to Farson, Wyoming where he pastored Eden Valley Bible Church while working on the Jack Murray Ranch. While working on the ranch he built a horse drawn stagecoach and broke a team of small horses to pull it. The stagecoach was used in parades to spread gospel tracts, and haul children to a tent where Goldie would teach them a Bible story. This stage coach, although repaired and parts replaced is still in use by Child Evangelism Fellowship. In 1968 Harold moved his family to Walsh, Colorado where he pastored at the First Baptist Church. In 1972 he moved his family to Stonington, Colorado where he worked on the Haney Farms and for Walsh Propane. He continued to preach whenever there was an opportunity in the community. In 1976 Harold moved his family one last time to their place just east of Walsh and right across the street from the cemetery. He always said his next move would be a short one - right across the road, and that move was November 15, 2010.
