Obituary

Herbert Allen Haman, commonly known as 'Herb', Herb Jr, or 'The Milkman', was called home by the Lord on Monday, October 12, 2015, at the age of 64, after living a few short months in Burlington, Colorado, with his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. He died at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado, from complications of COPD and heart problems following a recent hip surgery.
Herb was born on December 21, 1950 in Denver, CO to Herbert and Helen Haman. He was born a sickly baby, and the family moved to the Lamar and Springfield area when he was about 2. He spent most of his childhood in Springfield, Colorado, with the exception of 1-2 years in junior high when he was sent to live with his sister and her husband in Hardesty, Oklahoma. He was an accomplished high school athlete at Springfield High School earning records and awards in basketball, track and football. He graduated with the class of 1969. He married Sandy (Walker) Haman in 1970 and they lived in Denver where he worked at Safeway and earned a certificate in Auto mechanics from Western Technical College. They moved back to Springfield, Colorado in 1971 so Herb could take over his father's dairy business. Herb Sr, and Herb Jr, served most of southeastern Colorado with door to door dairy services and the evolved dairy distribution since the early 1950's with Superior Dairy and Borden's Dairy products. Herb Jr transitioned to Sinton Dairy distribution in the early 1980's, serving then as well, Prowers County and surrounding areas until 2006, when he moved to Castle Rock to serve Elbert and Douglas Counties. He loved his milk routes, school deliveries, and took great pride in his customer service. His health ended his time on the milk truck and he continued working at the Sinton's Dairy Plant in Colorado Springs from 2010 until his 24 years of service with Sinton's ended in layoff on May 7, 2015. You could find cottage cheese, sour cream he made and packaged there at most of your local grocery stores. You knew it was his batch by the date and production number followed by his "HH" initials on the lids of most cartons.
Herb and Sandy had 3 children while living in Springfield; Holly (1970), Dallas (1972) and Daniel (1982). While in Springfield Herb loved to raise hogs, began an accomplished career in Jaycees (United States Junior Chamber of Commerce), providing the community with Rattlesnake Round Ups at the local fair, many Haunted Houses, and several community service projects.
Herb remained active in Jaycees during his time in Baca and Prowers County, providing leadership for communities and individuals across the state of Colorado. He was given a lifetime membership by being honored as a Junior Chamber International Senator.
The family moved to Wiley and Lamar in 1983 with Herb's transition to Sinton Dairy. He was the 'voice' of the area, announcing races at Lamar Speedway, and fulfilling his passion for 'air time' at KLMR radio calling area sports events, cutting ads, running music sets and facilitating the Saturday Swap Shop. Herb and Sandy divorced in 1985. He was married twice more, first to Loretta (Carter) Greenwell and second to Vikki Westphal. In the last ten years he cherished being best friends with Ms. Donna McCart of Elizabeth, Colorado, the "Lunch Lady" from Elbert County Schools.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents Herb and Helen Haman and his half sister Harriet (Norman) Weber.

He is survived by his sister Ruth (Haman) Farmer (Benny) of Benton, Kansas; daughter Holly Haman Marcum (Tom) of Burlington, Colorado; son Dallas Haman (Regan)of Talkeetna, Alaska; son Daniel Haman (Toneille) of Burlington, Colorado. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ty, August, Zoey, Swae, Luxi , Kaitlenn and Danie Lynn and nephews, Ryan Murphy (Wisconsin) and Buddy Neff (Kansas).

Graveside services were provided by Dykes Funeral Home on October 19, 2015 at the Springfield Cemetery.
A Memorial fund in Herb Haman's honor is being managed by Frontier Bank with branches in Springfield, Walsh, Lamar and Burlington.
