Ila Ruth Walker of Walsh, 93, died at Walsh District Nursing Home, March 8, 2018. Ila was born in Stonington, Colorado on February 9, 1925, the fifth child of Ethel and Lewis Ely Walker. The family moved to Walsh when she was a year old.
Ila Ruth graduated from Walsh High School in 1943, then attended the University of Colorado Nursing School, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Ila Ruth served as an RN in Colorado, Arizona, Kansas, California and with the Peace Corps in Bolivia. She later taught elementary school in California. Ila loved to hike and camp, and twice took teen nieces and nephews on long camping trips up the Pacific coast and Canada. Ila retired to St Helens, Oregon, and moved back to Walsh in 2005.
Ila Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and L. E. Walker; Step-Mother, Vivian Walker; brothers, Clarence, Wilbur and James Daryl Walker; and sister, Oleta Walker Forgey; nieces Patsy Forgey Miller, and Clarissa Walker Pratt; and nephew Larry Forgey. Surviving Ila Ruth are her sister-in-law, Mildred Walker of Walsh and family; niece, Thelma Forgey and family, of Walsh; nephew Jim Walker and family, Ulysses, Kansas. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
