Obituary

Jane Louise Mundell, the daughter of Felix and Mamie (Mary Herbert) Mundell was born February 27, 1923 at her parents' home on Bear Creek northeast of Walsh, Colorado. Jane's life concluded July 13, 2015 at the Walsh Healthcare Center in Walsh. She was 92.

Throughout her life Jane pursued knowledge wherever she went. Elementary school years were spent at the Bartlett School three miles away. Transportation to and from school was by horse and buggy, horseback and in a Model T Ford. Jane graduated from Walsh High School in 1940 as valedictorian of her class and from the University of Colorado in 1944 with a degree in business, as well as teaching certificate accreditation.

Early in her career she did secretarial work for several entities, including the Colorado State Home for Dependent Children in south Denver and an insurance company. Later positions were with oil companies, among them Continental Oil Company (legal department), Colorado Oil and Gas Company and finally as secretary to the president of Fluor Oil and Gas.

Other fields of endeavor beckoned during her younger years and while she did secretarial work for Post Graduate Hospital in New York City she visited other major east coast cities and historical sites. Highlights included West Point, Philadelphia, Boston and Washington, D.C.

From time to time Jane also accepted teaching assignments, including at Walsh High School during 1945 and 1946. And after a year in New York City, she traveled to Wells, Nevada to teach in high school there. Another stint of secretarial skills teaching was at the Emily Griffith Opportunity School, Denver.

During the early 1950s Jane and a friend toured Europe, beginning in the British Isles, continuing into the Scandinavian countries, and through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France. Much of Europe at that time, particularly Germany, was still rebuilding after bombing onslaughts of World War II. Jane continued traveling throughout her life until one last trip in 2000 before moving from Denver in 2002 to her family home northeast of Walsh.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Mary Hopkins; a brother, Robert F. Mundell, and his wife, Helen Mundell; a brother-in-law, William C. Hale; and a nephew, Homer Mundell. Surviving are a sister, Marge Hale; two nephews, David and Dan Mundell; a niece, Sandy Mundell; three great- nephews, Justin (Desirae), Jacob and Clint (Lauren) Mundell; and three great greats – Reece, Grady and Cooper Mundell. Precious cousins, Margaret Herbert Timm and Bill Mundell, also survive along with other Herbert and Mundell family members.
