IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janice Louise
Means
December 6, 1939 – November 30, 2024
Janice Louise Means (Reeder) was born on December 6, 1939, in Canute
Oklahoma to William (Bill) Jackson Reeder and Viola (Vi) Sophie Reeder.
She was the oldest of two children, with one brother, William (Billy) Joseph
Reeder.
When she was in the third grade, her family moved to Springfield, Colorado
where she lived for the last 76 years of her life.
During high school, Janice twirled the baton, spent time with her group of
friends nicknamed "The Wolf Pack", and worked part time behind the soda
fountain at Gale-McCain Drug Store. A friend recalls her uncanny ability to
remember all kinds of things, like who was related to who in the county.
It was her memory and ability to talk to people that served her well when
she later began her 38-year career as one of the first faces you would see
at The Plainsman Herald. Her job at the paper is how she met her
husband, Billy Ray Means.
Janice and Bill were wed in the late 60's and raised their children, in a
house across the alley from her parents Bill and Vi.
When she wasn't working, or spending time with her grandkids, she would
visit with friends on the phone, write letters, and look in on friends and other
community members that were ill or needed an extra hand now and then.
Janice enjoyed a lot of things like word search puzzles, feeding stray
animals (especially the neighborhood squirrels), and taking her grandkids
to feed the goldfish at the park and see the peacocks at the Hansen's.
Driving around looking at Christmas lights, especially the "log monster,"
was one of the best memories. Her greatest joys in life were watching her
children and grandchildren participate in the many sports and
extracurricular activities they were involved in.
Janice passed away in Johnson, Kansas on November 30, 2024, with her
husband, Bill and two daughters, Marla and Kaylea by her side.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Vi Reeder, her brother,
Billy Reeder, her in-laws, Harold and Nellie Means, B.C. (Jr.) and Alene
Dapron, Candice Johnson, and Sherry Strouse.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, her 9 grandchildren, 14
great-grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild on the way.
She will be remembered in our small county as a sweet lady who knew
everybody and was always willing to visit with everyone. She truly was one
in a million.
