IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce
Villers
January 24, 1940 – November 14, 2019
Juanita Joyce Villers was born January 24 th , 1940 to Cryus and Juanita Eaton in Leadville, CO.
She had one sister Hazel and two brothers, Bill and Kenny.
Her family moved to Baca County in 1946. She attended first grade in Vilas and 2 nd grade in Stonington, before starting Walsh schools in 1948. It was there she met the love of her life. Joyce married Wayne Villers on May 5 th 1956. They lived happily on the farm south of Walsh, working hard to make a living and raise a family. They had 3 children starting with their son Larry, followed by daughters Sallie and Anita.
Things weren't always easy farming, and Joyce raised chickens and bottle calves and worked happily in her huge garden to make sure there was always food on the table. She never hesitated to take in anyone who needed a place to stay and loved having her brothers and special cousin Dave Villers in her home. She also worked shifts at the Walsh Hospital to bring in extra money. Although battling breast cancer, she never slowed down and worked tirelessly and endlessly to make sure her family was happy and secure.
Her world was shattered on June 26, 1995 when Wayne was killed in a devastating accident on the farm. But true to her nature, she forged forward to continue life on her own. She worked at the nursing home and Sage Services before starting her career at the post office. She worked in Walsh and Springfield post offices before becoming Postmaster at Pritchett, where she worked until retiring after 20 years.
When she wasn't working, she made endless and cherished crocheted and macramé items for family and friends. She also enjoyed painting rocks, playing cards and the occasional trips to the casino. When they were a young married couple, they loved to dance and liked to bowl with friends.
Joyce was saved at an early age and although she didn't frequent church, she relied on her relationship with God through Wayne"s death and her illness.
After retiring, Joyce sold the farm to her grandson Chantz and moved to town. Never one to stay idle, she went to work at Miller Specialties, where she loved working till she became ill.
She was diagnosed with brain and lung cancer in December of 2018 and remained at the home of her granddaughter Chambri in Pueblo until her death on November 14.
Joyce loved her family greatly, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her big smile, love of people and her willingness to help anyone, anytime.
