Juanita Crissman Ownbey passed from this life on November 13, 2022, at her home in Lamar, Colorado, at the age of 87.  Visitation will be at the Campo Community Center at 10:00 on Wednesday, November 16.  A graveside service will follow at Campo Cemetery at 11:00.  Anyone wishing to make memorial contributions may make them to Lamar Hospice, Springfield Long Term Health Facility, or the charity of their choice.

Juanita was born on August 3, 1935, to Shirley and Beatrice Hamilton Crissman. She grew up in various parts of Baca County. She married Pete Ownbey on August 4, 1952, so after being raised as an only child she quickly became part of a large family.  After the death of her father, she also gained another family when her mother married Chesla Cogburn.  She and Pete lived on the family farm and raised four children.  She loved being a wife and a mom.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, and her home was a gathering place for first her children and their friends, and after moving to Campo, for her grandchildren and their friends serving as a rest stop, eating place, dressing room for ballgames and prom, summer camp, and a place to just hang out.

She loved creating works of art through crochet and needlework, and later she became an accomplished quilter spending many hours with her friends quilting and enjoying their time together.  As much as she enjoyed the work that went into these projects, she especially enjoyed sharing them with family and friends.

After 65 years of marriage, Pete passed away, and Juanita made her home with her daughter, Carol, in Lamar.  Sadly, in 2020, her youngest son Allen left this life.  She is survived by her son Kink (Debra) Ownbey of Springfield, daughters Carol Cousins of Lamar, and Debbie (Darrell) Hearne of Graham, Texas, daughter-in-law Sherrie Ownbey of Campo, 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren, and her aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dykes Funeral Services in Walsh, Colorado.
