IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kelley (Buddy)
Raymond Williamson, Jr.
August 23, 1942 – December 1, 2024
Kelley Raymond Williamson Jr., a man known by many names and for many things. Whether you knew him as Kelley R., Bud, Buddy, or Dad, everyone knew him as a man who was driven and lived for experiences. His tenacity to fully explore every aspect of every endeavor led him to great success in his career, education, sports, and friendships. He loved good food, Tabasco sauce, a good joke, pranks, and throw in a pumpkin pie on the holidays and he was a happy man.
Kelley was born in Ottawa Kansas on 23 August, 1942, to Kelley Raymond Williamson Sr, and Maxine Louise Jones. After the family moved to a Farm right outside of Walsh Colorado not far off County Road 48, he settled into his responsibilities as the oldest child and his Dad's right-hand man; he became a source of strength mentally and physically. This ideology became his creed.
Kelley became a Walsh community icon at a very early age. By the time he was in 6th grade he played every sport and was in the school band. He went on to compete in every sport all through school and was revered for putting the Walsh Colorado Eagles on the map. To this day, families in Walsh still know who the renowned Bud Williamson is.
After graduating High School, aligning his educational goals with his creed, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Surveying and Mapping, and a Master of Science in Engineering. Kelley's absolute appreciation for the great outdoors led to him to volunteer as a forest fire firefighter when he was in his 20s. His devotion to nature eventually called him to create a long and illustrious career in surveying taking him far from the Farm in Walsh Colorado. He became the quintessential example of a man driven by a passion. Kelley made a commitment dedicating his life to becoming a public servant for the Bureau of Land Management upholding their mission to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
Kelley reached the pinnacle in his Government Service positions as a GS13 for the Bureau of Land Management. His career spanned more than 30 years and was marked with historical changes to our country's mapping system. Most notably, he was on the survey team that found the correct coordinance for the Four Corners. His profession took him from the Midwest all the way to Alaska; primarily based out of Alaska and New Mexico, before he retired and returned to his beloved Colorado.
Throughout Kelley's life he never gave up his infatuation with all things sports. Although he left football, basketball, baseball, and track, he found hunting, fishing, boating, motorcycles and fast cars. As with every other goal he set, he far surpassed the cliched terms of "angler" and "master hunter." Oh, the stories he could tell…stories aside, Kelley hunted and fished for sport and sustenance, but he firmly held an ethical focus on a clean kill, understanding the life cycle and habitat and ensuring anyone who accompanied him did the same. He treated every creature with respect and reverence.
After his accidents, and as with everything else he encountered in life, he tried to put perspective on his circumstances and future. In 2018 he was given a letter that he had framed and hung on his wall. He cherished the perspective and resolve of the man who wrote it and said it gave him clarity in his final years. As in life, Kelley chose to leave this world exemplifying all he held so dear: surrounded by family, giving thanks to God, reflecting on all the treasured experiences, and choosing attire befitting of a man who loved the great outdoors, comfort, and the casual love of life. It reflects his firm belief that life is about experiences, not things. His was a life well lived. Kelley came home to Walsh Colorado on the 2nd of December, 2024.
Kelley was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence and Lena Jones; his parents, Ray and Maxine Williamson; his sisters, Constance, and Janet; and his brother, Bill. He is survived by his siblings, Joan Ulibarri (Gene), Vicki Baldridge (Garry), and Bob Williamson (Jackie); his children Kelley Raymond Williamson III (Noell), Belinda Paine (Darin), Bruce Williamson (Brenda), Lena Hicks (Will), and Kacey Williamson (Ryan); and nine grandchildren, Nicholas Maio (Cody), Kelley Raymond Williamson IV (Theresa), Joshua Williamson, Mikayla Williamson, Roman Williamson, Collin Williamson, Gunther Norris, Hayden McEwen, and Shaelynn Newcombe.
