On June 3rd, 1964, a second "oops" was born to our parents Helen Elizabeth and Edward Junior Christiansen at Lamar, CO with the able assistance of Aunt Ethel, just a few days before mom's 42nd birthday and five years following "oops" sister, Donna. Older siblings Connie, RayDon and Trudy waiting patiently at home, Trudy keeping the horse tank clean and filled so mom could make good on her promise!
Although Kyle's first month on this earth was a rocky one, sometime at Children's Hospital in Denver and a stomach surgery proved to the ticket that would allow one red-headed, strong-lunged boy to come home, raring to go. It wasn't long before Kyle would need babysitting and often "words" over who got the title. Speaking of, just ask older sister Connie what happens when a red-haired toddler has to use the bathroom in the school parking lot! However, Kyle's toddler years were spent with close family friend, Minnie—it was there that Kyle forged a life-long friendship with Minnie's son, Chris Waldron.
The first few years of Kyle's life were busy with outdoor adventure, becoming the center of attention, and discovering his love for animals—pets especially. The first pet love came in the form of a red dachshund, Pretzel. Coming later in life was Hagar, who proved to be one heck of a lady's man, just like his father!
When it came time for school, Kyle entered the world of purple and white, as a Walsh Eagle. Kyle's first teacher, Mrs. Fulbright proved to be a big influence, so much that he believed her to be the first call, no matter what the problem! Throughout elementary school, he focused more on adding to his portfolio of life-long friendships and a budding love for sports—including his first pro-football team, the My-Mami Dolphins. Thankfully, he came to his senses, and became a forever fan of the Denver Broncos. Though he didn't shine as star scholar, his love for sports carried him through high school and into college, where he earned himself a degree in Agronomy, from Colorado State University.
After completing his schooling, Kyle returned to Southeast Colorado and continued his farm and ranch ventures. In 1988, Kyle joined forces with his father, making his first solo land purchase in 1991. In 1996, Kyle purchased his first home in Johnson, KS, continuing to perfect his farming and ranching craft. Though these ventures kept him busy, you would always know where to find him on a Sunday—glued to the Bronc game with niece Kim, often yelling at the TV.
In 2000, Kyle gained a forever daughter, Marissa, fondly known by friends and family as Rissi. In 2001, Kyle purchased land and a home near Springfield, CO and in 2005, Kyle and company made their forever home just north of Manter, KS. At this point, Marissa, who quickly became the light of Kyle's life, was in high school at Johnson, KS, graduating in 2008. While Marissa made an immediate impact on Kyle's life, he did so in hers as well. Through Kyle's love of sports, Marissa found her own—Kyle making it a priority to be at every one of Marissa's home games in both high school, as well as college.
Marissa quickly went from not only daughter but also business partner, majoring in Agriculture Business and working with Kyle to often times break area crop records. In 2010, Kyle took a big leap in in his farming tenure and stepped in to manage the Christiansen Family Business, Buffalo Plains.
Throughout his life, Kyle was known as many things: loving son, ornery brother, forever father, and beautiful farmer. Above all these, and many may agree, he is known as a faithful friend—going above and beyond for all. From traveling far and wide to keep close friendships, to dropping everything to plow fire lines that helped save the town of Manter. Kyle had a heart bigger than most, making sure his employees, his family, friends and neighbors were taken care of at every turn. His true heart belonged both in the fields and wherever you could hear the pitter-patter of doggie paws.
Whilst Kyle joined his father, beloved mother, and older brother on the 18th of December, 2016, he will forever have countless stories to be told. Those to carry on such stories include his daughter, Marissa, sisters Connie, Trudy, and Donna; loyal employees Arnoldo and Mile; as well as a crew of nieces and nephews. He also has many a watchdog as Hemi, Hoovie Scrodie, ant Otie will forever keep an eye on the farm
