Larry Ray Painter, age 64 of Walsh, CO, died Monday August 5th at his home. He was born December 4, 1959 in Lamar, CO to Billy and Phyllis Painter.

Larry grew up in Baca County, attending school in Pritchett and Springfield and graduated from Vilas High School in May of 1978. Young Larry enjoyed playing cowboys and Indians with his cousins, showing sheep and horses in 4-H, fishing, playing horseshoes, baseball, and tinkering - taking things apart and putting them back together - always with leftover parts. His Sunday afternoons were spent at playdays in the arena at Pritchett and at Grandma Ruby's roping, riding the bucking barrel. He also liked to play pitch. Upon completion of high school, Larry worked for Porter's, ranching and helping with the racehorses until the birth of his son, Casey. He then worked for Dillinger's, whom he purchased his home from in 1997 and lived there until his passing. He married Deena Hetrick on July 4th, 1981, and to this union came two children, Amber and Casey.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Billy Painter and Phyllis Painter. He is survived by his children, Amber Meza and husband David of Johnson, KS, Casey Painter and wife Shelby of Walsh, CO, brother Randy and wife Diane of Ulysses, KS, sister Brenda and husband Lance of Ulysses, KS, grandchildren Aleah, Colter and Ryder Painter, Alivia, Christian and Annelaine Meza.

Friends and family are invited to share their memories at a celebration of life, September 7, 2024 at 10AM at the Mennick Building in Springfield, CO.
