Harold Lloyd Hume, 89, of Manter ,KS passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2020 with his family at his side at the Stanton County Hospital. He was born on January 14, 1931 at the family home in Morton County, KS to Harold Burnett Hume and Mary Edith Hale Hume.
Lloyd attended school at Konantz, CO and Walsh, CO. He graduated from Walsh High School in 1949. While still in high school, he started his farming career, farming his grandfather's land. He continued to farm and raise pigs, but he was a rancher at heart, raising and working cattle for more than 65 years. Lloyd married Rosalie Hargrove on April 10, 1953 in Clayton, New Mexico. Over the next seven years, they had five children. He taught his four boys how to work hard at a young age and he spoiled his daughter. His greatest joy came when he earned the title "Granddad".
Lloyd was a quiet and gentle soul without many needs other than his family. He loved all God's creatures, especially dogs and horses. He was happiest in his saddle on his favorite horse, Ginger. Lloyd and Rosalie loved rodeos, especially the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo and the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. Lloyd was an avid reader, sharing that love with his children and grandchildren. He leaves behind his two cats aptly named Zane Grey and Louis Lamour.
Throughout his years, Lloyd lost his parents Harold & Edith Hume, son Ken Hume, brothers Floyd Hume and Jack Hume, and sisters Mary Jo Burson and Ganell Hume.
He leaves behind his wife Rosalie, sons Greg Hume & Mamie, Rod Hume & Sharon, Doug Hume & Bonnie, daughter Charla Pauls, daughter-in-law Ronda Hume, his grandchildren Jimi Nickel, Luke Pauls, Briar Fulton, Justin Hume, Riley Hume, Andie Hume, Allison Brown, Sarah Hume and their spouses, 13, soon to be 14, great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren and their families, his sister Phyllis Smith and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
