LORETTA RUTH BOHLANDER
Loretta Ruth Blundell Bohlander passed away March 26, 2015 at the age of 75. She was residing in the
Springfield Long Term Care Center at the time of her death. She was born August 23, 1939 in Las Animas,
Colorado. She was the fourth of seven children born to James Marion Blundell and Mamie Laura Smart Blundell.
Her parents and siblings, Carl, Vernon, Lorene, Alvin, Larry, and Rex lived in the cedars south of Las Animas. She
attended school at Kim.
Loretta married Melvin Bohlander September 28, 1957. To this union came three children, Marvin Harold,
Randy Lynn, and Karla Lorene. Loretta spent the latter part of her life in a relationship with Jesse Wade and
together they had Mamie Laura.
Loretta spent most of her working life in the restaurant business, either managing her own cafes in Pritchett and
the trailer park in Springfield or operating the Hilltop Cafe and Vic's Supper Club and waiting tables at several
others in the area.
The highlights and love of her life was always her grandkids and lately, her great grandkids. She really loved
when they would stop by the LTCC and see her. She also enjoyed reading Louis Lamour novels and watching
westerns on the television, particularly Bonanza.
Throughout Loretta's life she always made room for people that, one time or another, needed a place to stay.
The family said we always had extra "family" members because Loretta was forever helping someone out.
During her long residence in the LTCC, she made numerous close friends, both residents and employees. She
always said she had two families and loved them both. The family really appreciates all of those that loved and
cared for her on a daily basis.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, James Marion Blundell and Mamie Laura Blundell, two brothers,
Carl James and Alvin Marion, her daughter Karla Lorene, and a brother-in-law, Hank Ede. She is survived by her
children, Marvin Bohlander of Lamar, Randy and Rhonda Bohlander of Howard, Colorado, Mamie and Greg
Hume of Walsh, Colorado, her brothers Vernon and Dianna Blundell of Dodge City, Kansas, Larry and Patsy
Blundell of Las Animas, Colorado, Rex and Connie Blundell of Springfield, her sister, Lorene Ede of Springfield,

The family would like to say thank you to the caregivers at the Springfield Long Term Care Center, the Cottage,
and the hospital for all the love and compassion they have shown Loretta throughout the eighteen years she
was in your care. Our town and county are truly blessed to have the facility and wonderful people that fill the
halls on a daily basis. A special thank you to Dr. Manalo for always being there for Mom.
