1918-2011
Lorraine Doke was born November 18, 1918, and departed this life at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart, Kansas, on January 4, 2011, at the age of 92.
Lorraine, the daughter of W.K. and Helen Burchfield, was born in Iowa and lived there and in Kansas and Oklahoma before moving to Walsh, Colorado, in December 1928, from Hooker, Oklahoma.
She graduated from Walsh High School in 1936.
In 1938, Lorraine was united in marriage to Carl Doke in Richfield, Kansas . To this union three children were born: a daughter, Loretta and two sons, Ben and Walter.
Carl and Lorraine were in the oil business for seven years and after Carl's military service, they were engaged in farming and ranching. They resided in Pritchett their entire married life and in later years they did some traveling.
All of us agree that Mom was a great mother and delighted in being a farmer's wife and had it down to a "science." She was an excellent cook, liked to sew and crochet and her children and grandchildren all have quilts she crocheted.
Lorraine was a Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star.
Being great Pritchett Pirate fans, Carl and Lorraine attended many ballgames through the years.
She was a member of the Pritchett United Church and later transferred to the Springfield United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Carl, and two brothers-in-law, L.W. "Leck" Lohrey and Edward "Slim" Nelson.
She leaves to mourn her passing, daughter Loretta Cranford of Lamar and sons, Ben Doke of Walsh and Walter (Kathy) Doke of Pritchett; a sister, Ena Lohrey of Walsh and a sister-in-law, Mildred Nelson also of Walsh; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Pritchett Fire Department or Springfield Ambulance Service.
