Mack Paul Herndon was born September 23, 1945 in Liberal, Kansas to Baker and Florence Herndon. He departed this life December 14, at the age of 66. He grew up on a farm southwest of Pritchett, attending schoolland graduating in 1963. Mack then went to college in Trinidad, La Junta, and graduated from CSU in 1968 with a degree in agriculture. He returned to Pritchett to farm with Baker, and he continued to farm until the fall of 2008. Mack was a Mason, served on the Springfield CO-OP Board and also the Southeast Colorado Hospital Board.
He married Alicia Cooper Callihan in July 1980, becoming a step-father to Shana and Shelley. To this union, J.B. was born in June 1981. Mack enjoyed going to 3I shows and golfing with Denton Ward, fishing, wood working, making wooden bowls on his lathe, building furniture and most of all he loved his dogs.
Mack was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in February 2007, and became a resident at SECH Alzheimer's Cottage in May 2009. Mack tried to fight the disease but one cannot live on a battlefield with an invisible enemy. The disease stole him away and swallowed him up. As Mack said goodbye to taking care of the farm, he said hello to caregivers to take care of him. As he said goodbye to family, friends and his dog, Abby, he said hello to strangers. As he said goodbye to this terrible disease, he said hello to peace. Finally free of the constraints of this life, he has joined his dad.
Mack was preceded in death by his father, Baker Herndon, and his in-laws, J.T. and Carolyn Cooper.
Mack is survived by his mother, Florence Herndon; wife, Alicia; son, J.B.
