Mary Thelma Nugent, 91, of Springfield passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Southeast Colorado Hsopital Long Term Care Center on October 18, 2010.
She was born on November 14, 1918, to Jerry D. and Cora May (Hayden) Bishop in Springfield, Colorado. She married Eugene Nugent on August 17, 1940, in Clayton, New Mexico. The couple was blessed with two children, Barbara (Nugent) Gonzalis of Wagoner, Oklahoma, and Bobby Nugent of Edmond, Oklahoma. Eugene and Thelma farmed land in Campo, Colorado, until 1974 at which time they moved to Springfield. Eugene passed away on December 22, 2001.
Eugene's death was very difficult for Thelma. She never expected to outlive him, but with the love and support of family and friends around her she was able to deal with this loss in her own way.
Thelma lived her life in Springfield working in a local restaurant baking pies and cinnamon rolls. Her time was mostly spent blessing local residents until 2007 when she went to the Southeast Colorado Hospital Long Term Care Center.
Thelma was the sixth child out of twelve siblings. She was preceded in death by parents, all her siblings and her husband of 60 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Gonzalis; son, Bobby Nugent and wife Debra; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
