Obituary

Maxine E. Moser was born May 19, 1928, in Byers, Kansas, to Melvin Starkey and Jenny Pearl (Rose) Hays.

The family lived in Satanta, Kansas, and Maxine graduated from high school there in May of 1948.

Maxine married Jack Moser on February 16, 1950, in Clayton, New Mexico. They celebrated 64 years of marriage this year.

She moved to a farm in Baca County with Jack in 1950 and has resided there ever since. She worked for Tony Havens at his market in Vilas for several years and when Tony passed on she took over the grocery store and ran it until she retired in 1994.

Maxine traveled with Jack all over the United States. They went to Maine to see an old buddy with whom Jack served during World War II. She enjoyed going with Jack to his 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment reunions. She especially enjoyed a trip to Sunburst, Montana, to see one of Jack's old buddies from the time he spent serving in Korea. Maxine enjoyed the Moser Family get-togethers in Creede, Colorado.

She was quite an outdoors person. Fishing in streams and lakes and hunting for moose, elk, and deer in the mountains were some of her favorite things to do. Maxine shot several deer while on hunting trips with friends. Crappie fishing at Two Buttes Lake years ago was always fun for Maxine. On one fishing trip at Road Canyon she caught a large trout. A photo of Maxine and the fish were used by a local business for an advertisement.

Maxine is survived by her husband, Jack; one brother, Cleo Hays of Wichita, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by four siblings and their spouses, Howard and Betty Hays, Oscar and Vivian Hays, Horace and Donna McCashill, and Jay and Phyllis Pulis; two nieces, Caran Hays and Connie Hays and one nephew, Randal McCashill.
