Obituary

Mildred Louese Nelson was born September 15, 1914; approximately 12 miles south of what would later become the town of Walsh to Benjamin Gaines and Hallie Iona (Cook) Doke.

Mildred attended country schools during her primary years and went on to graduate from Walsh High School. While in high school Mildred played on a championship, 6-man basketball team. After graduation Mildred spent some time traveling to various places including Washington D.C. When she returned home to Baca County she worked for the gas company in Springfield as a bookkeeper.

Mildred met and married Edward "Slim" Nelson. Slim was the owner of a local oil company. Slim and Mildred worked together in their business until his declining health necessitated their retiring and moving to Florida.

After Slim's death Mildred came back to Colorado. She lived at Springfield West before moving to Walsh. She lived for some time in Maplewood Homes then as she began to need more care she became a resident of the Walsh Healthcare Center where
she passed away October 28, 2011, at the age of 97.

Aunt Millie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her siblings; Carrie Wellman, Sarah Belle Canning, Thomas Jefferson Doke, Carl Doke and an unnamed infant. Her survivors include; nephews, Walter (Kathy) Doke of Pritchett, Ben Doke of Wyoming, nieces; Lois (Dykes) Gruber of Walsh, Loretta Cranford of Lamar, and Bobbie Wellman of Liberal, Kansas.
