"The mind commands the body and is instantly obeyed. The mind commands itself and meets resistance." Saint Augustine of Hippo, Confessions
Nathan Courtney Troup lived from January 15, 1981 through September 8, 2013. For those of you who can't subtract, he was 32. (He enjoyed sarcasm.) Nathan divided his time between jail, a psych hospital, and living in an apartment in the inner-city of Kansas City, MO. In all of those places, he reached out to those around him, considering himself an urban missionary. He was able to love people that our society fears, despises and pities, people that no one else would even bother with, but that are children of God, nonetheless.
Nathan was artistic and creative, drawing and painting intense, dynamic pictures. (One is a cherished wedding gift to his older sister.) Nathan wanted to understand how everything works and enjoyed building and fixing (and sometimes breaking) things. To his parents' dismay, he was a precocious tool-user and as a toddler unfastened everything in the house that was within reach. Later, he, moved on to more constructive projects. Nathan valued hard work; he was willing to do anything, from working in a restaurant kitchen to pumping out portable toilets. From these endeavors he always had hilarious stories to share, especially about the toilets. Blue tinged money, anyone? Nathan supplemented his income and diet with yet another passion, hunting. He even dispatched a goat for a party being thrown by a couple of squeamish Nigerians. Nathan was very affectionate, doling out the most magnificent, bone-creaking hugs and uninhibited declarations of his admiration. He did this especially for his mother, to her combined appreciation and embarrassment.
Nathan is survived by David Lee Troup (Dad), Patricia Ann "Pat" Troup (Mom), Allison Marie Troup Schiltz (older sister), and Cara Louise Troup Burton (younger sister). He is also nephew to Bill & Violet Troup, Schatzie Troup Bilyeu, Kathy Troup Ramsey and Ginger Troup Bordewick. They love him and miss him. He is predeceased by Lisa Pauline Troup (eldest sister), many beloved older relatives, as well as, fish, frogs, snakes, turtles, lizards, a guinea pig, a squirrel, a tarantula, and a few dogs.
Nathan was born in Denver, CO. He moved away at a very young age, but loved Colorado and always dreamed of moving back one day. He had some of his happiest moments there. If you want to find him in the next life, that is where he'll be. That is also where he will be interred. Per his wishes, he will rest next to Lisa, in Walsh Cemetery in Walsh, Colorado.
