Obituary

Noma Lea Borden passed away April 15, 2017, at Walsh Health Care Center. She was 90. It was Noma Lea's wish to be cremated and at this time there is no service planned.

Noma Lea Baldwin was born in Hooker, Oklahoma, on February 1, 1927, to Earl F. Baldwin and Ina Mae Nevins Baldwin. She was one of four children. Her siblings were Betty Jean, Earl Dean and Ila Mae.

Mr. Baldwin engaged in farming with wheat being his primary crop. In April of 1932 the family moved to a farm two miles west of Stonington, Colorado. They brought along Jersey milk cows when they moved from Oklahoma and it was selling milk and shipping cream to the Trinidad Creamery that helped them survive the Great Depression. In 1934 the Baldwins moved to Vilas, Colorado, where the children attended school and all four graduated from high school.

Noma married Jack Bangs from Campo, Colorado. They had one child, Jack Michael, who passed away in 1974. Noma Lea moved to Pittsburg, Kansas, in 1958. She met and married William Borden. She later moved back to Baca County and married Earl Crane.

Noma Lea was a self-taught and talented crafts person. She caned chairs and taught herself to play the piano by ear. She carved intricate figures of birds, flowers, cowboys and Indians. Some of her carvings can be viewed at the Baca County Museum in Springfield, Colorado.

After moving back to Springfield, Noma began attending the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She became a resident of the Walsh Healthcare Center in 2014. Noma faithfully attended Bible study there as long as her health allowed. She would often play the piano and other residents would sing along!

Noma is survived by two grandchildren; Jackie Anderson and Travis Bangs; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Droste; step granddaughter, Lisa Cherry and sister, Ila Wofford. She is also survived by the residents and staff of WHCC.
