Obituary

Paul Vernon Wray was born at home June 26, 1929, on the Wray homestead near Richards, Colorado, to Cecil and Cora Wray. He departed to his heavenly home September 16, 2015, from the Walsh Healthcare Center.

He attended elementary school at Diamond Ridge; high school, grades nine and ten at Stonington, Colorado, and grades eleven and twelve at Walsh High School where he graduated with the class of 1948.

Paul helped his father, Cecil, farm and ranch for three years. He then served in the Korean War from 1951 – 1953.

Paul married Lenora McCauley on July 17, 1954. They were blessed with four children; Dale Wayne, who died in infancy, Anna Paulene, Douglas Lynn and Karla Sue.

He continued ranching and farming with his dad until he took over the operation in the 1970's. That was the joy of his life until his heath began to fail and he moved to Walsh in 2012. In February of 2013 he was admitted to the Walsh Healthcare Center where he resided until his death.

Paul loved hunting, fishing and camping out. He especially enjoyed his fishing trips with his grandsons, Jonathan and Adam, and he loved to tell about all the pranks they pulled on each other. He cherished the times his son, Doug, and he spent hunting deer and elk in the mountains. His daughters, Paulene and Karla, always looked forward to going with him to feed the cows so they could drive the pickup even when they couldn't read the pedals.

Paul accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Walsh, Colorado, in 1951, where he attended and served faithfully until his health would not allow.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dale Wayne; his father, Cecil Wray; his mother, Cora; his stepmother, Dorothy; brothers, Robert, Reuben, Ivan and Merle Wray.

He is survived by his wife, Lenora; children, Paulene and husband David Mason of Hugoton Kansas, Douglas and wife Anne of rural Walsh, Colorado, Karla and husband Harlan Bartel of Cimarron, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Ruth Wray of Modesto, California, one special cousin, Laura Streeter of Canadian, Texas, and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
