IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pauline
Piper
April 16, 1922 – January 28, 2020
Lillie Pauline (Heckethorn) Piper entered into this life on April 16, 1922, to Isaac and Sarah Heckethorn in Stonington, Colorado. She was raised on the homestead in Stonington with her brother and seven sisters. After high school, Pauline worked as a cook to the broomcorn Johnnies for Short and Agnes Bishop. Later on their son, Orlan, became Pauline's honorary son.
Pauline met her lifelong love, Ivan Piper, while out on a double date. After this date Pauline told herself she was going to marry this man. On a side note, Ivan was not her date that night! On January 14, 1944, she did just that in Richfield, Kansas. Ivan took her to the Western Stock Show in Denver for their honeymoon. Upon their return they moved to Walsh. To this union Ivan and Pauline were blessed with six boys; Ron, John and Max then eight years later came Leslie, Ivan Dale and Troy. Pauline and Ivan got to spend 53 years together before his death.
When the younger three boys were all in school Pauline started working at the school cafeteria in Walsh. After 21 ½ years she retired from the school in 1988. So you could say she was a REALLY good cook. The favorite of many was her Icebox Stew. After she retired Pauline enjoyed doing crafts, playing card games and dominoes. She also enjoyed taking care of and loving her many grandkids and great-grandkids.
Pauline completed her life's journey surrounded by her family on January 28, 2020, at the age of 97. She is survived by her sons; Ron (Sue) of Walsh, John (Annie) of Springfield, Max of Springfield, Leslie (Natalie) of Amarillo, Ivan Dale (Trish) of Walsh and Troy (Jennifer) of Wiley. Nineteen grandchildren, numerous great and great-greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Pauline is preceded in death by her husband, Ivan, parents, grandparents, brother, all seven sisters, daughters-in-law, Chris (wife of Max) and Ruthie (wife of Ivan Dale), numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
Pauline was loved and will be missed by her family and her friends.
