IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ralph Wayne
Bohl
June 21, 1941 – November 26, 2021
Ralph Wayne Bohl was born June 21, 1941, to George and Odessa (Taylor) Bohl. He was the fifth of six children. He and his siblings-Betty, Kenneth, Joan, Opal and Lawrence grew up and worked on the farm east of Walsh.
Ralph attended school at the Konantz School and later Walsh High School. He also spent one year in school in Colorado Springs. Here he met his lifelong friend, Gerald Kahre.
In May 1961 Ralph married Jo Medlen. They were servants married to one another and they did nearly everything together. Jo helped Ralph farm and Ralph helped Jo can vegetables and fruit. They checked and worked cows together and enjoyed a drive down the creek in the evenings. Jo passed away in 2006 and Ralph missed her intensely.
Ralph and Jo had four daughters, Jane, Valerie, Gayle and Dusty and was an excellent father. Working with each of his four girls on the farm he was PATIENT, kind and loving and under his tutelage the girls learned to drive equipment and work stock. They all worked together to haul hay, build fence and do the thousand jobs required on the farm. Ralph never pushed the girls to do more than they were physically able, but at the same time never cut them short because they were "just girls" …neither did he allow others around them to do this. What a blessing he was in the life of his daughters.
As the daughters raised their families, Ralph's grandchildren were frequent visitors on the farm. He and Jo were blessed by the help of some of the grandsons that stayed extended periods of time on the farm. Both Ben Lacy and Tanner Lacy spent summers at the farm during their high school years and later delayed their college entrance to assist Ralph and Jo as they focused on Jo's struggle with cancer. In the last three years, Seth Wallace and Ralph have been bachelor roommates, co-workers and best of friends.
During his life Ralph was a hard worker and did many types of work. He briefly went to the Los Angeles area and was a milk man, worked in the timber in Oregon, managed a broomcorn camp and farmed and ranched in Baca County. He was able to build and repair anything. His livestock brought him great joy and he provided excellent care for them. Animals that were seriously ill and expected to not make it, often fully recovered, and thrived under his care. He also had an immense love of the land and took pleasure in the unique qualities of each season. Over the last decade or so, Ralph joined forces with Max Woolley and Bryan Woolley to run cattle. This arrangement was a tremendous blessing to Ralph and allowed him to continue to do the work he loved for many additional years.
Ralph was also a creative thinker and pursued many different interests. This, paired with his kind nature, made life with Ralph fun and interesting. He worked for years on a perpetual motion machine, had cart horses and donkeys along with his working riding horses, taught himself photography and to tan hides and always had "different" little critters on the farm such as peacocks, fallow deer, a Highlander cow (before they became popular) and Persian cats.
Ralph passed away Friday, November 26, 2021, at the age of 80. He is survived by his children Jane (Les) Lacy, Valerie (Chuck) Williams, Gayle (Brad) Waller and Dusty (Dave) Wallace. Eleven grandchildren—Ben Lacy, Tanner Lacy and Erika Lacy. Shalako Williams, Sandy Williams and Ervin Stofflet. Rebecca Waller and Danielle Higgins. Ryan Wallace, Seth Wallace and Melissa Wallace. Five great grandchildren—Aurora Lacy, Briar Lacy, Shailee Stofflet, Jaxon Stofflet and Ajax Higgins. Three siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ralph's life was a life that demonstrated kindness, a deep belief in God and love every day. He will be missed dearly.
