Mrs. Silvey was born on July 15, 1917, in Hansford County, Texas, near the town of Spearman. Rosalie was the youngest of five children. She attended the country school of McBride and went to high school in Gruver. Despite the drought, dust storms and the depression of the 1930's, she continued her education and earned her teaching certificate from Panhandle A. and M. College in Goodwell, Oklahoma.
While teaching school at the small country school of Mitchell, in Baca County, she met her future husband, Cecil Silvey. They were married on June 11, 1938. They had celebrated sixty-six years of marriage before Cecil passed away in October of 2004.
They lived on the farm south of Vilas, began their family there, and resided there until they moved into town in 1957.
Rosalie worked as a postal clerk at the post office in Walsh from 1959 until she retired in 1980. She was an excellent cook and homemaker and was active in the Lamport Helping Hands Club and Home Extension for many years.
Rosalie was a loving wife, partner, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who always took a great deal of pride and delight in the achievements of her extended family.
She will forever be in the prayers and thoughts of everyone who knew, respected and loved her for the Great Lady that she was.
