Roy is survived by his wife, Mary, his children, Troy and his wife Melissa and Stephanie and her husband John, his sister Margie Hicks, his grandchildren, Cory, Morgan and Trevor, his great-grandson Connor and numerous nieces and nephews.
Since Roy frequently liked dogs better than humans, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grey Muzzle Organization, 14460 Falls of Neuse Road, Suite 149-269, Raleigh, NC 27614.
Roy was born to John and Lorene Lowe on June 4, 1947, in Lamar, Colorado. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1965 and attended Lamar Community College for one year. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 19, 1967. He was stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland and served his country honorably until January 17, 1969. On January 20, 1969, Roy married Mary Jane Jordan in Annapolis, Maryland and they had a loving marriage that lasted 51 years. He was the proud father of son, Troy, and daughter, Stephanie. After his military service, Roy worked in construction with his father-in-law, Cliff Jordan, for several years and then in 1972 he went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad (which later became the Burlington Northern Santa Fe) in the track department. In 1981, Roy went into engine service and then continued to work for the railroad as a Locomotive Engineer for 35 years until his retirement on October 1, 2007. Roy was well liked and highly respected by those that he worked with. Roy was an artist at heart. He played guitar, sang, drew, whittled and had a talent for photography. He was a unique soul, with a wicked sense of humor. If you never heard him tell the joke about the white bunny and the bear in the forest, you really missed out on something. Roy was loved and adored by his family and friends. We will miss his presence in our lives greatly.
