Seigel Andrew Tinsley, Jr. was born October 18, 1920, in Gainesville, Texas to Seigel A. and Ida Bell (Davidson) Tinsley, Sr. He was the second of five children.
He attended Dumas High School where he met and married Mae M. Peters at her Senior Prom on May 2, 1942.
He joined the U.S. Army and served his country in World War II from 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945.
Shorty and Mae were blessed with three children; Charles, born in 1947, Daniel, born in 1952 and Wilda, born in 1957.
He worked various jobs before going to work for the United States Department of the Interior-Bureau of Mines-Helium Activities. He retired after 30 years of service.
He enjoyed playing golf, camping, fishing and traveling with friends. He filmed football and basketball games for Keyes High School. He also took pictures for high school graduations, homecoming ceremonies and weddings. He always had his kids as subjects to photograph. But his all-time favorite subject was himself, way before selfies were in!
Survivors include his wife, Mae of the home; one son, Charles (Janet) Tinsley of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Wilda (Charley) McKinley of Richfield, Kansas; three grandchildren, Robert Tinsley, Scott McKinley and Meagan McKinley and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and son, Daniel Thomas Tinsley.
Shorty passed away on Flag Day, June 14, 2017, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson, Kansas. Graveside service and interment will be Monday, June 19, 2017, at Richfield Cemetery.
