Wynema (Rutherford) Henderson was born October 15, 1934 to James and Goldie Rutherford in Prairie Grove, Arkansas.
Wynema passed on August 21, 2023, in Springfield, Colorado, at the Long-Term Care Center. She was 88.
Wynema spent her young childhood travelling with the family from Arkansas to California before settling in Stonington, Colorado, when Wynema was 7 years old. Wynema attended Stonington Schools and this is where she met her future husband, Emmett Henderson.
Wynema and Emmett were married on June 12, 1952, in Clayton, New Mexico. To this union 7 children were born; Darrell, Doris, Loy, Dale, Dave, Rex and Kellie. Wynema was a homemaker for years after their last child graduated from high school. Wynema started a career working at the Walsh Hospital and later Walsh Healthcare Center. She retired after many years as a dietitian at WHCC.
Wynema loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the many friends she and Emmett made through the years in Baca County. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Walsh, Colorado.
Emmett passed in December of 2015. Wynema stayed in the home until October of 2017 when she moved into Maplewood Homes where she lived until she moved to Hugo, Colorado, in May of 2022 to be closer to her daughter, Kellie, and in June of 2023 she decided to move back to Baca County into the Springfield Long Term Care Unit so she could be closer to her many long-time friends.
Wynema is survived by her sons, Darrell (Gale) of Satanta, Kansas, Loy (Marsha) of Ulysses, Kansas, and Dave (Lori) of Amarillo, Texas; daughter, Kellie (Bruce) Walters of Hugo, Colorado, and daughter-in-law, Trish Henderson of Amarillo, Texas. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren, 4 sisters-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wynema is preceded in death by her parents, husband Emmett, daughter Doris, sons Dale and Rex, 3 sisters Billie Beth, Jimmie Nell, Laura Rae (Happy) and their spouses.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Maplewood Homes in Walsh, Colorado, Springfield Hospital and Long-Term Care and Pioneer Manor of Hugo, Colorado for the wonderful care she received while in each facility.
